So I have twc cable with a Motorola SB6141. Had this modem now for over a year and no issues. Woke up this morning to no Internet so I reset the modem and router, no luck. Called twc and they inform me they can't even see the modem connected. They attempt to troubleshoot as much as possible, but couldn't fix it and now they are sending a technician next week. I find it really odd this happened out of the blue. Anyone have any remedies I could try myself?

Can you get to 192.168.100.1? That should bring up the modem information page. If that doesn't work its likely dead, sucks you need t wait for a tech, just buy your own modem if that was a TWC modem. That modem you buy could die, buy you wouldn't be paying TWC to rent a modem and don't have t wait for a tech.

I actually did buy the modem myself, not sure what I can do though but warranty it through motorola. I can still access the 192.168 page though so if there is something I can do from there I'd love to hear it

I remember reading last month on TWC forum the SB6141 will no longer be supported on their network. Let me check to see if their any updates about it on forum

Several interesting threads which may be what LostStorm is referring to:

Some of the later posts in the first thread suggest not using a splitter. There's quite a bit of talk about the difference between black, white and TWC SB6141 modems, and TWC's inability to determine which firmware to push to your particular version of the SB6141. It could be possible (but not certain) that the sudden apparent death of the modem is due to TWC pushing the wrong firmware to your SB6141.

A key quote from the third thread, which also makes it apparent that TWC is now pushing a new 2014 firmware to SB6141 modems: "there was a lot of old junk on ebay& amazon that had a really old or defunct cable companies firmware that couldn't be upgraded."

Well I bought the router new from best buy. It is the white retail version. I just grabbed a sb6183 from best buy to see if it resolves my issue. I'll either keep it and rma the modem I have, or return the new one if it exhibits the same problem.

Well it was the modem, SB6183 works like a charm and I am now getting 310 download and 22 upload speeds so that's cool I guess. One thing though, when I called to activate the modem the timewarner rep told me the modem was a refurb and she had to take if off an old account. Apparently they've been having this issue with best buy modems recently :/ anyways good to be back online and will contact motorola for an RMA on the old one.
