I come home today and find my internet doesn't work. I discover that the dsl modem is attempting to connect. Ideally, the modem's internet status light should go from slowly flashing to quickly flashing, and then staying lit when it's connected to the internet. However, that light is just flashing, alternating between slow and fast, as if it gets dropped right as it connects to the internet. This happened yesterday as well. I've tried cycling the power of the modem and the router, but still no dice.

Any clues as to whats going on? I'm currently on a verizon dsl dry loop in the nyc area.

Sounds like your ISP is experiencing issues. Wait a couple hours or call Verizon.

+1.. probably caused by rain.. i am dead serious too.. you just need to call verizon and tell them you can't connect.. see if they can access your modem..

2x common causes that I've seen a kajillion times:
*Modem is starting to fail, fixed by replacing
*Faulty lines from the street to your house.

sounds like the modem isn't able to successfully sync with the DSLAM.

any new phones installed (plugged in) that don't have a filter? or any device plugged into a phone jack?

I came across that several times when I was a field tech
