What is the best modelling putty for use on metal/plastic cases?

I’ve read some articles that point towards car bodywork sort of fibreglass fillers for the grunt shaping, but also use (is it called primer filler?) to give it a smooth finish.

I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to these substances and so far I’ve found no real guide, any information would be gratefully appreciated.

(Bare in mind I’m English so if you start using brand names i may not know what your on about :) )

I need to use it to fill the gap that this image shows.

from what I hear, most people use the fiberglass filler you spoke of (common brand name here anyway, which most people use as a generic name: Bondo) which can be sanded smooth, etc, then painted with a sandable primer, which can again, be sanded smooth, then paint it.

don't know if there are any other putties or anything people use

why do you want to get rid of it?? why not just paint it or add a turbine mod or somthing cool

Never use bondo for a big gap. It WILL crack.
You would do better to bond in some plastic panels for fill - then - work on the small stuff.
No way would I put bondo on my case. And I'm a boat builder by trade with years of experience with fiberglass, wood, bondo etc.

Bad idea.

hasn't cracked on my car yet :D
and it's not even painted

ghetto? yes. do I care? no. the car is shit now.
but, we definitely used more than he would be using on that case.
and it's been in more extreme weather and temperature than his case will be in.

my $.02
and yes, ymmv

Yeah, i caved in and dug out the old green cover, attached it and ive now drilled a fat 80mm hole in it with a dremel (although the edges are a bit sloppy) im gonna use filler to make it look smooth then spray the whole thing black.

Thanks for all your help :D.

If the bondo is applied thickly it will crack. The picture He's showing has what look's like a 1" + thick area needing to be filled. Is the bondo on your car 1" thick?
