i really want to make my xbox look nice and stand out in a crowd. i want to give it a nice paint job, nothing really fancy just 2 different colors. so my question is- what is the best spray paint for xbox and i dont want to open the xbox to paint it, i'll use some tape to cover spots that i dont want to paint. if you have links to the product that u recomend that would be really cool. also have in mind that it is going to be my 1st mod ever so i dont know anything about modding.

1 word: Krylon Fusion.

Isn't that TWO words? :p

In any case... the stuff works pretty well. So does vinyl dye. You should be able to get some at a local auto parts store. However, I would highly recommend that you do take the XBOX apart prior to painting as it gives a more professional look. It's extremely hard to get the areas in between cracks and crevices to look great without taking the shell off.

I remember i painted my old PS1 a nice forest green.. it was sooo pretty... but yeah i would suggest you do take a part.. as i did with my PS1 :)

thanks a lot bubsie, that gave me a LOT of ideas, do you think silver and orange would look nice?

it should look pretty good, or maybe you could try silver and red. also, what areas of the xbox are you planning to paint what color?

the whole thing- probly the big X on top silver and aaround it in some other color, but 1st i'll try to make it in photoshop b4 i paint it

isnt krylon fusion vinyal dye anyway?

no, it's got some of the same properties as vinyl dye, but it's not really vinyl dye. it bonds to plastic instead of coating it, whereas vinyl dye actually goes into a few layers of the plastic, or vinyl.

at least, i'm almost positive. also, vinyl dye gives a bit of a more flat color and texture and krylon fusion has a more shiny and slick texture.

while its open u might want to try actually modding the xbox... hehe well worth the 50$ for a chip

A quick warning to those trying to use vinyl dye to make their Xbox a light color: The Xbox isn't actually black. If you look closely, it's actually a very dark green. This screws with the dye. We tried to dye a friends Xbox white and ended up with a very ugly pale yellow/green. In the end we had to use Fusion. Just something to keep in mind.

thanks, so did white Fusion look white on xbox?

orange and silver would look pretty sweet...i remember seeing one dude that had his painted orange for the big "x" part and silver for the jewel...also if you mess up you can get a replacement case here

Fusion looks just fine. It is a paint and not a dye, after all. It sprays on a lot smoother than regular spray paint but it's not quite as fool-proof as dye.

i want to mod my xbox using national colors of Belarus. here's the national flag. can somebody please post a rough sketch to show the locations of colors on the unit?

Three words, use your imagination.

absolutely do not paint without removing the parts from the case
it'll look horrible if you dont, and it could even ruin the xbox from over heating by clogging the air vents (and you could even paint the componants inside.

and i'm a huge fusion whore, so definately fusion it :D

Yea the chaps over at xbox-scene are VERRY helpful. Plus they've got loads faqs and experienced people with it an all, plus piles of mods (but some are getting a but unoriginal now) *looks at been-done-50-times-blue-crystal* :D
