modding neons?

has anyone modded neons? and by that i mean cutting and extending the wires? i know in some things it doesnt work but i would like to cut and extend my wires so that i can my neons placed to give off the optimal lighting WITHOUT being seen. i have the places picked out perfectly but the wire is just too short and id have to leave the "sound activated box" sitting on top of one of my hard drives which id rather not do....

 
I've extended the CCFL wires no problem. Hell you can even get extensions for them.

You need a special high voltage wire. Home Depot sells it for like, 9c a foot.

would you know the rating off hand for the wire that you use?
