I have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 THX speakers.

I hate how the Power Switch is on the back of the subwoofer. I like to turn these speakers off because they get a little hot after being on all day.

So, I decided to mod a switch out of the speakers and have it somehow sit on my desk or in my case...


Could someone help me accomplish this...???

sure, take off the sub cover, unsolder the switch points, solder on the long wires at those points...and it's done. You'll void warranty though.
 
Even easier..... buy a POS switched "Surge Suppressor" and mount it under your desk where you can use your foot to turn the speakers on an off. :D
 
hahahha, awesome suggestion. i remember plenty of times when i had to use my trusty foot to switch off the surge suppressor in class so the teacher wouldnt see me slacking off.

I just set that up. I need an extension cord though because the Surge strip thing is still laying on the ground beside me. But this makes it a hell of a lot easier!

Not the best idea in the world. Surge surpressors give a nice jolt when they turn on, which wreaks havoc on the amp, power supply, and fuse of the 2.1s. I would recommend leaving them on as that was how they were designed to be used. Just turn the volume down when you leave.
 
yeah well I just took that apart prior to your post... Because when I turned the switch (surge switch) the speakers gave a loud pop (even when the volume was all the way down).

I guess it isn't that hard to walk over to the corner and turn them off... :p
 
The pop should be normal. This is just capasitors resetting and throwing out their previous charge. This will in no way damage the speakers.
 
oh ok thanks, It just looked to cluttered and I need an extension cord. Until then, I will have to get up off my ass... :D
 
The power on thump is caused by the inrush of voltage across the transformer.
Not the caps.
The whole idea of a surge suppressor causing pops is absurd....
The whole purpose of the Mov's inside them is to shunt transient voltage spikes to ground.... Not create transient voltage spikes. :rolleyes:

I would love nothing more then to discuss the finer points of the engineering that went into the power supply on these speakers with these people.
But you see there is a problem with that.
