Modding Logitech Z-680's Display

Hi guys -

Has anyone tried modding the control unit of the Logitech Z-680's so that instead of having a bright blue display with black text, you get blue text on a dark background?

Just wondering if anyone else has thought of switching the polariser on the LCD around.

Hmm, well it was only 8 screws that stood between me and me finding out:

Turned the speakers off. Damn, no music.

4 screws took care of the back plate on the control unit, and a further 4 short screws to rescue the LCD display from the clutches of the front fascia. :p

Pulled the 8-pin connector from the main circuit board.

Turned the speakers back on so I could listen to music while messing with the display.

The LCD was held on to its circuit board by 8 little metal twist-tabs that pass through small slots on the circuit board. Easy to bend except for the one covered by a blob of hot-glue where the display end of the 8-pin cable is soldered on. Cut the hot glue away a bit, and bent that twist-tab straight too - and the display was free at last!

Pulled the glass display out of its metal bracket.

OK, no Mork "Fly, be free!" egg antics. The display was glass on glass, with strips of carbon contact and silicon rubber running along the edges.

Unfortunately, this was as far as I got with this supposedly simple mod - the polariser plate was glued on to the front glass plate (or its made of adhesive plastic) - meaning I couldn't reverse it and get a display with bright text on a dark background.

As many other Aussies say.... "Bugger."

Oh well - same probably goes for the other Logitech models too with this type of display. If anyone else has luck with this, let me know okay? :)
 
I did a really nice mod to mines..

Called Logitech, waited a few days and I modded mines into a clean metallic white/silver/black one with a white backlight!

And a lifetime supply of butter on the knob! ;)
