Can anyone tell me how I could mod an electronic device that would run off a 9V battery, so that I can connect a molex to that and have it powered by my pc? Would I need to connect it to the 12V line on the molex and then solder in a resistor or something?! I'm a noob with this type of stuff :p

Thx

ahh i see, so open up that adapter, connect the 9v end to my device, and connect the 12v end to the molex and hope i figure out which is ground hehe .. theres got to have been people that have done the type of thing im asking for, shame there isnt any nice how-to's

thx

you need a voltage regulator
LM7809

You wont find it at rat shack. Can get a Adjustable voltage regulator and work with that.

<--- agrees with Ruffy.

A resisitor would work, but the chances of you getting the proper resisitor would be slim, since it's current draw would change during the usage of the device.

Also, another thought...try just connecting right to the 12V source and see what happens? Many 9V toys are designed to be run at 12V in reality.

What exactly is the device you are planning to hook up?

Be careful how much current your driving though. Most of those IC regulators are only good for the mA range.
