What mods have you thought in your head that you figured would be cool? It has to be something realistic, not "I wanted to put a skirt on the bottom of my case, use a 1.5 hp engine, and a big fan, turning it into a hovercraft."

a mouse made to look and "feel" like a woman's breast with nipples for mouse buttons.!

If you'd get away from the computer a little more often you might be able to feel some for real. Or you might not, but atleast you'd be trying then.

i thought it would be cool to use actuators or hydrolics to make a case that i can press a button on the keyboard an the case peels itself open like a transformer

owned :(

i want to put a comp in a mini bar fridge and use the radiator as watercooling or somthing like that

........I build what a dream....no sense in dreaming without getting shit done.

i would build a computer with some chain guns attached for those annoying people at lanparties that love to come up to PC's and poke and say OMG WHAT DOES THAT BARE WIRE DO!? or WHAT DOES THIS BUTTON DO *POP*

anyway, usually when i dream its about a life that dosent so closely resemble hell, after falling asleep to the sound of my own screams of course...... but hey.... thats just me

I had a real cool idea once...
fire.jpg

I like fire and thought it would be cool if my case would shoot out a ball of fire out the top of the case when I hit a button.

Put th fan at the bottom of a cylinder, and have the gas eject above the fan(so the fan is blowing it out). The when the igniter sparks there is nothing in that way to catch on fire, but the fan is still pushing it up.

Of course having propane so close to that many electric spark sources is asking for a disaster.

It sounds like you haven't done much yet. Are you experienced in cutting metal? If not then you should try on some scap before cutting your case. What kind of case do you have? If your looking to start modding then you should get a dirt cheap case. Full ATX cases are nice to mod since they have so much room.

One thing you could easily do is to use a variable resistor to control the speed of your case fans. It would be pretty easy if your any good with soldering. If your good at painting, paint something on the side of your case and have two fans as they eyes for something or other.

Something else that might be useful is to make a better system for storing your hard drives if you have a lot of them. They are placed too close together to have a hard drive in every slot. So just cut out your existing hard drive bays and put in something better with better cooling. Maybe have the new bay have the hard drive sideways so you could fit more in. Just be sure that is can be easily taken out or how will you screw them in :p.

Its tough to say what will be fun for you to do. What don't you like about your current case? Start from there.

I've had a few modding ideas. One was to build an ATX hole in the wall. There would be a panel for the monitor, mouse, KB and some USB ports similar to a 4 plug electrical outlet panel. Airflow would be tied into central air and the CDRom door would be stealthed to look like a vent. I would do it so that you would have to access the system from the other side of the wall. (in a closet)

Another was to have a computer room with a motorized pocket door. Access would be obtained by using a fingerprint scanner (which I already have) The scanner would also log the person on who's prints were scanned. I'm currently working on some software that could acomplish this.

Another Idea I had was to build a case from scratch and then chrome EVERYTHING. any part that can be chromed and still work. Another concept to this idea was to incorporate mirrors to give the illusion that the inside of the PC was absolutely huge. sort of like the Tardis on Dr. Who. :)

Of course, these are probably mostly stupid ideas anyways. lol

My Dream is to have a 42 in plasma tv come out of the ceiling, just the push of a button and drops down right in front of you!

Simple

I am thinking of building a case completely from scratch, all concrete. 3 inch thick walls about 40 inches high with a steel internal frame (covered up so it looks like pure concrete). I must be in a traingle shape or something I haven't decided yet, as a typical rectangle wouldn't look that great.

All your standard features for a case, just huge (and fucking heavy). I want to big enough to enclose all of my raid arrays, watercooling kit, everything. I have a lot of experience in heavy guage steel and welding, so that part won't be too hard. The worst part will be getting the motherboard tray just perfect and aligned with the back of the case. I can use my lian-li pc70 as a guide on that, since they are about the same size.

I am wanting to start on it this winter when work slows down. It will be one hell of an adventure that I haven't completely decided if I want to do yet. My deciding factor will be once I get the plans all drawn up and see if it is possible.

Sounds like a laptop. ;) But seriously it sounds pretty cool. Just be sure to plan it out well because it probably won't be easy to add things later on. Concrete isn't exactly butter.

I want to have a case that is watercooled. As in the parts are in tiny boxes that barely cover the part, and the rest of the case is filled with water. Then just fill the whole deal with fish and crap. Like some fish that are cool but don't have to be 80 or so degrees. Or maybe a penguin. That would rock. Yeah. Aquarium case, with a penguin inside.

You need the penguin from Billy Madison. :p Just keep the bus driver away from it!

somewhere in this forum, there was a guy who posted pics of his components inside of a bag of non-conductive oil or something like that, and that was how he had all of his stuff....just in the bag of oil...it looked like water...it was fuggin cool

i want to use optical sensors just inside the side panel so unless you deactivate them and you stick your hand past the sensors it would squirt water or something at you.

This sound silly and simple, but I've always been too lazy. I'd like to mod the fans in the side panel, so there is a press-fit power terminal. In other words there is no molex you have to worry about connecting. You just plug a rail of your PSU into a spot on your case, and it runs(through a channel on your case) to all the fan positions. Then when you snap the fans down they're powered. No lines running all over your case, no worrying about plugging anything in.

Would you then be able to plug yourself into your case and electrocute yourself?

Cool.

i thought about making a perfectly spherical case that you had to put on a stand or could roll around
i forgot where but i remember seeing it.. this guy made a computer into a glass globe... pretty cool i forgot where tho... i think it was metku.net, not sure

Cool.
If you built it like a wall socket( case has recepticle, and fan has prongs) then the shock danger wouldn't be any worse than a molex. There are several other ways it could be safe. A spring loaded flap that slides or flips down would be another good way. Maybe wire in a switch that activates and lets power through if a screw is fully seated. Then there wouldn't even be power there unless the fan is mounted(or some dumbo puts screws in without a fan).

This would also make it easy for manufacturers to wire in a single knob to control the fan speed throughout the entire case.

Paypal me a few hundred thousand dollars, and I'll be building rather than dreaming too!

I just got my $170 paycheck today and spent all but like $30 of it in 10 minutes. Hey, I needed that stuff!
