modding AthlonXP into XP-mobile

I'd like to get some more feedback on this mod. I've read through this article which details it pretty well
http://www.cpuheat.wz.cz/html/AXP_multiplier/AXP_Multiplier.htm

Basically, I want to know if it would be worth doing this to my processor or if it would be better to just buy a mobile. Also, can multipliers be changed in the BIOS instead of using that windows utility? Any trouble spots I should be aware of?
btw, my barton is a week 50

Modding a processor to mobile is fairly useless unless you plan on using powernow! functions. The big reason for the move to mobile is their overclockability due to their lower default core voltage which equates to a higher quality piece of silicon.

they're not that much more expensive. i personally would say just buy the mobile ones instead of trying that. but that's just me.

I didn't think that the nforce2 supported PowerNow anyway since IIRC has no way of changing P-states. So even if I put a true mobile processor in my mobo, it still wouldn't use powernow.

I forgot to mention that I'm cheap too and I'd rather hear some success stories before spending another $90 on a processor.

Even if you did this mod to normal barton it wouldn't overclock like a mobile. A mobile is just a barton yes but they are cherry picked barton cores that are able to run the same speed completely stable at 1.45v instead of 1.65v. So even if you mod a regular barton that doesn't mean you get one of the good overclockers.

And people dont buy mobiles to actually use PowerNow! on a desktop. They buy them because in order fro PowerNow! to work the multi HAS TO BE unlocked.

So with a mobile you get an unlocked multi and a processor that runs stable at 1.45v making it a really good overclocker.

Just buy yourself a 2400+ mobile and dont bother trying to mess with a normal barton core.
