I have an idea for a project and the size of the radiator on these are too big. I have one already that I would like to use but I need to know if it would be ok to cut the tube and put on a smaller radiator like an 80mm instead of a 120mm. I am refering to something like the Corsair h40.

Yeah, it would be fine as long as the tubing is of similar diameter/length and you don't introduce any additional air into the loop.

And therein lies the problem. Once you cut the tubing, you've automatically introduced air into the system....in at least having an empty radiator you'll have to fill and purge.

So, how do you purge the air from the now opened, once closed system without having to add in a reservoir or T-line?
 
Even out of the box those sealed systems have a small amount of air.

I can't remember where I read about it, but someone showed a guide on how to get the air out of a 'sealed' system. At the top of their rad (which was above the tubing and pump), they drilled a very small hole and used a syringe to fill it with water, then used a screw with silicone sealant to cap it off.

Or, you can assemble the 'closed' loop while submerged.

Happy to help. At the very least I'd be interested to hear about what method you went with and how well it worked, since I may find myself doing the same thing later on. However, If you decide to include pictures I will be even more interested ;-)
 
When I find a cheap used one I am planing on doing a work log on here with my mod. May be awhile though kinda short on cash right now.
 
Another way to fix the air problem is adding a res. Micro reservoirs are cheap and will take care of the air problem.
 
The less extra items the better I don't have much room to work with. That is why I like the all in one kits because they don't have a res, but if I can find one small enough maybe I will go with it.
 
Never did get the point of modding all in ones instead just going full out...
 
Do you already have the all-in-one unit, if not have you considered using something like the Apogee Drive II instead?

I like this idea but it still seems to tall for what I want to do. I will double check also it is more expensive. This is a silly project not a hard core cooling mod. I will start a thread on in modding to show you what I am thinking about.
