hey all

so i have watercooled my system (check my sig for the thread) in an effort to make my system quiet. its been a long and fun road and where im at now is a very quiet machine, cool machine, same speed OC'ed machine...... with the hum of a psu driving me nuts. its quiet to everyone else. not me.

so i want to replace the fan. SPCR confirmed my suspicions that the fan rattles and hums and i listened to the mp3 and yep, that was my noise. i also saw there that there are fan headers in my psu. so thats awesome.

so what i wanna know is any tips i may need, for instance, how to cut and end some wires if need be, and if its a 2 pin plug as opposed to 2 pins in a 3-pin plug body, what i will need to do then. also since im using yate loon and nexus fans, i was wondering if i could remove the molex connectors i dont need and the best way to do that. my tools i guess will be a scissors, electrical tape and heatshrink.

holla at me pros!

At the bottom of this page are a few different 2/3 pin cable leads and adaptors:2/3 cables ect

My PSU has no fan headers inside. It was just soldered. Find a review that has internal pictures and you can find out for sure.

If you dont plan on soldering anything I would avoid cutting off connectors and twisting wire together. Just look for an adapter try to carefully cram it all back into the psu. It may take some clever wire routing.

oh i know for sure it has headers in there. from a review at SPCR.

as for cutting wires, i wanna remove the extra cable clutter from the nexus/yate loon fan im gonna be using, if possible or i might jsut end up ahving to stuff it in the psu shell.

Wrap the exess wire length around the fan itself. It wont be pretty but it will keep it tidy and not inhibit air flow. Then look for some dead space to tuck the adaptor.

If you really want to get rid of excess wire, here is a good nonsoldering splice, with these you dont even need a crimp tool. You just need some pliars to close the splice. Make your splice to the mini molex and trim off the extra wire.

Or just trim and splice
Probibly your best bet after thinking about it. When you use these, dont strip the insulation off the wire, they are made to bite right throug it. You could do this install with some sharp scissors and a strong thumb.
