modding a lian li v1000

ok basically im gonna empty out my case to make some cuts in it for cable routing ..
all u guys who have modded this case ... i know one of the main cuts to make
is on the side of the 5.25 drive bays to route the hd cables up there ..

the hd cage blocks me from routing the power cables up that way as well ..
what other cuts do u guys recommend ?
 
you can get the power cable up that side, it may be a little tricky, but i had no issues with doing it.

Its hard to tell on the pic but, the power cable comes from the supply, through the wall with the "u" shaped cut, then its is routed over top of the cage where the floor rises an inch, then makes the turn up to go through the cut you are going to make.
 
thanks for the pic ..

i took out the wall and the hd right next to it ,, just have the front hd cage ..
and there is no way to route the power cable over top the cage that
i can see .. the cage basically is right against the top part .. no gap at all ???
 
we gutta stop meating like this :p

i went the ghetto route and cut a chunk outta the HDD cage, it will only hold 2 now, bit for easy wire managment, its worth it

and damn, dont the v1000b's just look super sexy?

anyone have a problem with the lian li drive bay covers ..

on my dvdr .. it opens fine .. but no matter what everytime i close it .. it jams and i have to
pull the cover down to get the dvd tray to go back in ?

about the drive bay covers, you should be able to adjust the position of the optical drive to eliminate the bay cover sticking. i have 3 optical drives in my v1200b and one of them was sticking until i adjusted the drive's position. it's probably a miniscule adjsutment that needs to be made.

okay, BLUE = data cables / switches, GREEN = power cables and RED = Holes that I cut in the case.

Obviously all the holes that I drew on top of the motherboard are holes I cut in the motherboard tray. Hope there aren't too many confusing lines :)

That is my recommendation.

the air diverter covering the back of the exhaust fan .. does that seriously block airflow ?
cuz i have one for the psu as well .. just wondering ??

also do u know what kinda of tool fits those 2 bolts to take out the front usb connectors ?

i got the plus edition so i dunno about hte back fan thing

and those bolts area torx bit, not sure what number thou

Of course it would have some effect, but not too much to worry about. I use mine because it can blow the air out the side of my desk, rather than all the hot air gathering around the back of my PC shelf, so the improvement from that far out weighs any turbulence/disruption caused by it.

No idea, I never removed it.. Without looking im assuming its some sort of torx screw or something standard like that.
 
man i dont know how u guys hide cables so well .. the cut out helped a tad that i did on the side of the 5.25 bays .. over the motherboard is clear .. but the whole bottom part with the psu and hds is a mess and i took out the one hd holder .. under the optical drive is the same .. looks like crap .. but the center is clear .. god im helpless .. it just seems there is so many psu cables

With the exception of the 24 pin mobo connector all the PSU cables in that picture were cut back to inside the PSU where I soldered on new wires to the right length that I needed. That way there were no extra cables to deal with.

More recently I have switched to a modular powersupply (which didn't exist in the main-stream when I was doing this cable job) so I can keep my PSU warranty and have good cables.
 
its scary .. my wiring job .. there is just no room .. i cant even imagine if i put the another hd rack in .. i should have bought the 1200 for more depth ..

ill take a pic in a bit lol

Yeah, its a premodified koolance case. Heres a pic before i added the videocard and block:

I don't have a pic of the top, but there are 2 fans on the topside of that radiator. Prebuilt is pretty lame, but i don't really like the rear mounted rads, plus the koolance kit looks and works well with this case imo.

That is a super sick wiring job. nice job with the pci-e cable, thsee things are always a bitch to run cleanly. looking very good.

my PSU is a modular one, its cables are clear UV reactive tubing over a cool looking silver sleeve

you dont see much of those but i placed them so they look good, the front panel audio cable runs along the bottem waiting for some sort of covering, as is the USB cable(thanks DFi for placing the fucking headers in the middle of hte board) ive never seen the point of tring to hide IDE cables so im useing bright yellow ones to A) match the mobos yellow parts and B) to pull your eyes from the exposed non covered wires

IMHO 100% hidden wire jobs is a myth, its not about hiding thie wires, its about blending them in and hading other stuff to take your eyes from them(like my IDE cables, the star wars figuresm and my case badge.clonetrooper logo plate, and some badass hardware never hurts eather, i get more comments about my "modded" 7900GT and my v1000b

as a local computer shops owner said "fuck the wires, it takes stones to cut into a $200+ case and mod an aftermarket cooler to fit the 7900gt"
