greetings from the mothership

So I've got this snazzy PSU(tagan 480), its got mucho leads and they're prety lenghty. So I'm going to chop it up. Just wondering whats the best way to shorting the leads.

Should I just cut it at the desired lenght then re-pin and cap the ends or should I just cut out a segment of the cable and re-attached it by stripping the wires, twisting em together and wrapping it in electric tape? Is the latter no good interms of stable supply of power.

My first time digging into this stuff, just a bit nervous and dont wanna blow anything up.

Thanks for the help.

The second method is not recommended, if not completely dangerous. However, if you solder the joint instead, both methods work fine. It depends on your level of comfort, and your aesthetic ideals.

IMO the best method would be to re-crimp the molex heads onto the supply. You could also buy some 90 degree molex connectors and just stick them on the wires (if you've ever seen one, you'll know what i'm talking about).

The second method is just stupid unless you solder the wires together..

and use heat shrink - I've done it in a pinch (not proud, but it did the job).

Agreed tho - the best method to shorten your power leads is to replace the molex or use the 90 degree ones for a nice clean look.

If your really insane (like me) and really think nothing of voiding your warranty, just start over with the lenths you need from power supply itself and get rid of extra crap you don't need. This is not for the faint of heart nor the "modding my first powersupply".

Stick with replacing the Molex -

Peace,
Tim

These are quick easy alternative to solder + heatshrink.
fully insulated and require nothing more than a pair of pliers to use.

Lowes, homedepot or any self respecting hardware store will carry equivelant products. .

those seems pretty snazzy. Think I'll take a look at those.

Another question, does it matter if i only use one lead per device or have 2 ends on a lead. Just thinking interms of amps/draw all that technical stuff. I'll have 4 hard drives stacked, so I was thinking I would have 2 leads, with 2 ends each or even 1 lead split with 4 molex ends. And just jump em across the hard drives.

Does thes degrade the quality of power or anything?

Guess it doesn't matter if I have 4 leads, i could just sleeve it all into one nice cable.
