I do audio and electronics work...making rack panels etc, as well as networking and telecom wiring.
some of my favorites, that I have used on doing some small stuff on my cases
1) Irwin Unibit
mine is 3/16 to 7/8 but they come in different sizes. Very handy for mounting smaller connectors and switches in both rack panels and computer cases.
Source: I got a great deal on eBay. This bit normally retails for AT LEAST 40 dollars, got it brand new less than 20.
2) Weller WLC100 Soldering station
I use this to solder, well, everything. Works like a champ.
Source: Sears, not the cheapest but I had a gift card. All the electronics/toolkit companies sell them at varying prices. I have seen anywhere from 40 to 60 dollars.
3) Klein 1005 crimper
I use this for all my insulated terminals and phone splices (beanies). The cutter at the top is handy as well.
Source: Home Depot sells a lot of the Klein tools at decent prices. All the electrical suppliers have their tools too.
4) Klein Kurve wire strippers
I have both the solid and stranded wire versions, they both are great. Very comfortable grips, good stripping notches, and they also cut bolts.
Source: same as 3
5) Assortment of heat shrink and a lighter.
Comes in handy for just about everything. If you are careful you don't need a heat gun except on the larger stuff.
Source: any good electronics store, also around here Micro Center carries some good stuff. The RadioShack kind is no good IMHO.
6) Cable Ties.
Self explanatory. Whoever invented them is a genius.
Source: I get mine from my dad's work: wholesale price, less than 2 cents a piece.
7) A good cordless drill, I have an 18 Volt DeWalt. Works like a champ and holds a good charge. Also comes in handy when I run wire in people's houses.
Source: a family member gave it to me
