mod your own surround sound

i bought the logitech z-2200 which are the 2.1 version of the z-560 or z-680s. i saw these speakers on sale for under $100 so i had to buy them. they are connected to the subwoofer through 1/8" jacks which look similar to a normal speaker/headphone jack. when i bought the speakers i thought they would use the xx-guage or whatever its called when u have the red and black wire.

my question being, is there any way to mod these speakers and the subwoofer so that i can hook them up to a reciever. than i could go out and buy another 2 speakers to use as rears. the reciever will be connected to an audigy 2 through the digital audio out port.

sorry if i didnt make any sense, i dont know the names for anything. and thanks for ur help.

Well, that means the soundsystem uses a digital signal to send it's sound to the comp or in this case, the reciever. You can go to radioshack and I THINK you can buy an adapter/converter.

You're looking for a digital audio to ANALOG audio converter/adapter.

Also, you CAN cut the speaker cable, but you're really asking for it then. Because distinguishing the neg/pos feeds from the digital line are a pain in the ass. And on top of that it's not made to send a signal to the reciever like that.

...or you can use a 1/8" to 2 RCA adapter and plug the RCA ends into your receiver's analog inputs.
