Mod Solo fan mesh?

It decreased temps in my case...

I didn't care to much about the jaggies, since it wouldn't be seen through the multiple filters and the way the LED's reflect. Overall, the case in now quieter with the metal mesh gone on the front also providing much better airflow.

FYI, I just used a dremel with a cut-off wheel. Good Luck.
 
I am curious as to why you didn't cutout the mesh where the rear fan is?
Did the intake matter much more than the exhaust in your case?

I was hoping to just open up the front, and not use the 92mm fans this time
in the front, since they are way louder than the 120mm in the back and the 120mm
CPU fans. I just generally don't like fans smaller than 120mm.

Also planning an A05N build, perhaps this Solo should be retired?
 
In the rear, I wasn't getting alot of turbulence since the mesh was already bulging in the back. However, in the front, the fanblades were flush to the grille and I instantly saw a difference when I cut those out. If I did the rear, I doubt I'd see any drastic changes so I spared it. I have 3x 140mm (not of great quality) exhaust fans, so removing the heat wasn't a problem. Hope this helps.
 
I cut the mesh out of my antec 300 and it made a noticeable difference in the "woosh" sound of the fans. I also cut out the jagged edges and put u-channel around the edge and it help even more as it acts as a dampener for the fan vibrations as well.
 
Sounds like I should leave the mesh alone in the front if I don't intend to mount
any fans there. I don't think that it would help much to have it more open just to
improve the draw that the rear fans can create?

Is the u-channel just simple window molding from a hardware store, or is it a PC
modding accessory?
 
Wouldn't removing the mesh bring in more dust? I''m looking into modding an old case, and allowing bigger than 80mm fans into it. And the only way I could do this would be to cut out the mesh and part of the case. But increased dust was a concern of mine.

The Antec Solo I am referring to has full intake filters that cover the mesh (or the cut-out mesh) so the dust would be the same.
Unless more of it can make its way though the filter I wouldn't think it would be an issue.
 
Gotcha, good to know. I don't think there are intake filters on this case, but I know you buy cheap-o mesh ones, which would probably do the trick.
