Im attempting a kinda "out there" mod and dont really want to give the whole idea away yet but i want to know how i can power a fan inside my case using the power supply without a motherboard. I have a 400 watt antec tru supply, i know i can solder the connections at the area where the power supply plugs in, but that power is obviously too much to power a small fan and it would most likely burn up, infact im not ashamed to admidt it, it does burn up. a friend thinks there is a way to jump it but im not sure how to go about this. any help is much appreciated. thank you

Are you talking about an AC fan?

no like a system antec fan two of then to be exact. The problem is im good with computers not electricity.

Just use the paperclip trick(refer to FAQ) or something similar to make the psu run without being attached to the mobo.. then plug in your fans. Wrap it so not with elec. tape so not to short anything.

so... you want to use an 400 watt PSU to power just two fans?

I've had my TruPower 330 running with just 4 Vantec Stealths attached for about 5 minutes and no problems...

if you are blowing the hell out of fans, perhaps you sleeved this PSU and mixed up the wires, or perhps whatever you used to short the PSU to make it work without a mobo is not hooked up right...

Please be more specific about what you HAVE done... you don't have to tell what you are PLANNING to do...
