mobo upgrade

I was wondering about upgrading my mobo to one of those NF7-S Abits and was wondering if i could actually, for now, just buy the mobo and be able to install my old processor and old ram into it and use those until i upgrade them as well. I have an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ and two sticks of 512MB sdram (yes, ordinary sdram). I am pretty sure that the MOBO would take the processor but what about the RAM. Looking at it on newegg i didn't recognize anywhere it saying if i could use this ram and i can understand why they wouldn't say it. Should i try and find more info on the ram somehow like speeds? :)

P.S. Are these Athlon XPs all socket A processors?
(just had bad deja vu and it felt like i had written this somewhere before, FUN)

wow im quick to post, just noticed that memory FAQ sticky and will read that but any quick answers would still be appreciated!

NF7-S will take all Socket A CPU's. However it only supports DDR. Do yourself a favor and get the XP 2500+ and some Corsair TwinX memory so you and go Dual Channel, if you have the cash.
