just got a new motherboard and a few other things for finishing my computer. The motherboard is a Asrock K7Upgrade-880, but after putting it in and hooking everything up the computer is only showing 1.10ghz just like the old off-brand motherboard did. One of the reasons i am upgrading this computer is because during games for some reason my fps will drop to 4 and lag out, its especially bad in wow when im mting or oting a boss. The cpu is a amd 2500+ I've gone through just about everything i can think of to try and fix it. I figured it might be a cpu driver issue, so i went to the asrock site to get the windows xp driver, however when installing the 1 driver that is made for my cpu (they have 3 drivers all together 1 for windows 98, windows me and windows 2000. The one for windows xp which is the one i tried, and one for 64 bit chips) i get an error about not being a 64 bit chip....I'm beyond confused at this point and appreciate any help.

Your FSB is probably running at 100mhz instead of 166, if I remember correctly. Go into the bios by repeatedly pressing the delete key on your keyboard and change that sucker to 166.

thanks for the response, i tried that but for some reason it wont let me move the fsb it stays at 100mhz in the bios. If it helps at all heres specs on the mobo -

http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=K7UPGRADE-880-BO

the specs on that site show it should be at either 266/33/4000 mhz..but its only at 100...

When i went into the bios i noticed that it shows it's running at 1100mhz, but im using a 2500+ amd cpu (it should at the least be showing around 2000 - 2200mhz right?), also the vga only shows 256mb (it wont let me go passed 256), but im running a 512mb agp geforce 7600 GS. I went back to the manufacturer site to look for a driver i might have missed that would fix this, but the only 2 drivers on their site i can use only work for 64 bit cpus and upon istalling either driver it pops an error because its not a 64 bit cpu. Any ideas would help a ton.

I think you would have better luck downloading the motherboard's manual. Also, the mhz you're referring to as 400/333/266, are the double data rates ( basically 400 means your frequency/bus is actually running at 200mhz, your's is running at 100mhz which means a 200mhz effective rate). Also find out what your processor's stock frequency is supposed to be, you could probably find that information on amd's website.

thanks for the help! I hit the internet for a bit and found the manual, apparently the fsb was set to 100mhz, opened the case and set it to 200mhz. Now when i go into the bios its reading as 1833mhz and 200fsb :)

Also does anyone know anything about bridge cards? Apparently my motherboard has an optional bridge card but i can't seem to find a site or a dealer that sales it, any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's a link of what it is and looks like -

http://www.asrockamerica.com/Products/754Bridgecard.htm

On the where to buy link on the top of that page all the companies/sites it list don't carry that or have never heard of it :(

If you are referring to the AGP Aperture setting in the BIOS only going to 256 meg thats probably normal for that board. That setting is not an indication of how much video ram you have. Google it for an explanation of what it does. Watch your screen during the post, the first splash screen should be your video bios and it should indicate the correct amount of video ram. If it doesn't, it's not because of what is set for your AGP Aperture setting. Hope that helps.
