I'd asked this in August when looking to upgrade as a way to free up hardware for a WHS. Now my desktop is acting up and I'm likely looking at new mobo/cpu/memory.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Photoshop, web browsing, (theoretically gaming, but I haven’t fired up a PC game in 15 months)

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$800 not including shipping and tax (those are free due to the power of magic thinking!)

3) Where do you live?
Pennsylvania – right near a Microcenter if that helps

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
CPU, cooler, RAM, Mobo, boot drive

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Case, DVD drives, data drives, not sure about power supply – mine is from 4/2007 – time to replace?
Re-use vid card?

6) Will you be overclocking?
Yes.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
24” 1920*1200

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
ASAP

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
RAID 1, esata port on back

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license?
new Win7 home premium full in box

In my old thread Danny was kind enough to recommend
$200 - Intel Core i7 920 CPU
$210 - Asus P6T SE Intel X58 ATX Motherboard
$120 - G.Skill F3-12800CL9T-6GBNQ 3 x 2GB DDR3 1600 RAM
$40 - Thermalright Cogage TRUE Spirit HSF
---
Total: $570 plus tax and shipping.

If you're still using the Seasonic 700W PSU that's in your sig, it's still good enough.

I'll let you figure out the boot drives yourself. But FYI, you do have enough money for an Intel SSD :D

Any changes to that recommendation?

Thanks

(and of course, now that I can't make it out to Microcenter... I want to go to Microcenter. Which is probably closed anyhow. lol)

I forgot which video card you were using, but if you really aren't planning on gaming, you can get away with reusing it for this build.

Given the age of your power supply, however, I recommend buying a new one along with the rest of the parts that you're considering (or Danny recommended). A good 600-750 watt power supply from Antec, Seasonic, or Corsair (among others) would be more than enough.

Cool, thanks, yeah I think the PS can get replaced.

I've got the 8800 GTS in my .sig

lol that figures, I get mentally prepped to pull the trigger and wind up fixing my desktop.

Evidently my first attempt to reseat my vidcard was a fail. Just as well, no need to spend money NOW if I don't have to.
