Mobo and RAM question

I have a crappy mobo that I plan to upgrade soon, but my question is, my mobo only supports up tp pc2100. I want to upgrade my ram first and I was thinking about pc3200. Will it work in my current mobo and only operate at pc2100 speed, or not work at all? Also, I was thinking about A7N8X-Deluxe, but I am also confused about ram steppings or timings. What is the timing for this board?
 
In most cases it will work, but at the slower speed. Some motherboards are picky, however, so your mileage may vary.
