What would you guys reccommend in an athlon 64 s939 board for a guy who likes to game, wants to do some moderate overclocking, and wants to spend less than $500 on the board, processor, case, and 2gb's of memory.

He's not hard core, and is probably looking at a 3200+ Athlon 64. I'm out of touch on the core variations so any advice there is welcome too.

Sli capability is neither here nor there.

He's looking at a DFI Lanparty UT-NF4D. Thoughts? They get decent reviews but he's just wanting some expert and user opinions.

All opinions and thoughts are welcome.
 
for a great board with benchmarks that rival dfi ultra d at the same o/clocks this board rocks.dosent o/clock as high but it o/clocks high enough for most.600mhz on near stock voltage and after using 3 other ultra boards this has to be as close to a perfect board as you can buy on the market today.im running 1 gig of corsair xms 3200c2 ram and a a64 3200 cpu clocked at 2600 1 to 1 with the ram.voltage is at 1.39v cpu and 2.65 on the ram.my benchmarks put up against the dfi boards at comparable speeds are rite there with them.and you dont spend weeks trying to get the board to boot and run stable.if you are looking for a board to max out your hardware to the last mhz possible then dfi is it,but for a great all around board this is it.its layout is perfect,its rock solid,o/clocks well,runs cool,mature bios,3 yr warranty and its fast as hell.what more can you ask for.if you need sli look at the asus sli boards but in my opinion sli is a waste of money.single video card solutions will prevail as time goes by.with the rite card you can get performance close to or match sli performance.but honestly take a look at this board if you want a leading edge board that dosent break the bank.what a deal with a 3200 venice and 1 gig of ram and the a8n-e,a x800gto video card = 10000 points for 3d mark 2003 running at 2450mhz htt 245 ram 1 to 1 with cpu.cant beat that.higher benches than that clocked at 2600.i can run 2450 with all voltages stock and it runs cool with cool and quiet enabled.i run a business off this computer and what id like to do is build a 2nd rig with a dfi expert board and see how high i can push it but not have to depend on it for total stability for everyday use.kinda like a hotrod you have in the garage and use when you have the urge to go all out.
 
check out the dfi nf4 infinity series. unless he is using bh5 ram(he wont be if if wants 2gb ram) and/or does extreme overclocking these boards are great and cheaper than the lanparty boards. also, the epox 9npa series are really fine boards. in my sff i am using a biostar tforce 6100 and an opteron 144. it runs at 311x9 @ 1.53vcore with a zalman 7000b. the board is around $70, overclocks great, fits into tiny cases. i think you can still get an 3200 venice for around $150, mainboard $70, 2gb ok g.skill ram $150, xqpack case $75, antec 500watt smartpower 2 psu $60. you didnt mention what he would be using for vid, but the biostar has buillt in nvidia 6100 graphics. its not like he will be able to play f.e.a.r. or anything, but nice to have for backup and troubleshooting.
good luck on your build. i have pretty much the system above with mce2005 installed and i use it much more than the box in my sig.
