mobo and cpu temperature

i've just reseated my scythe ninja after cleaning it and the cpu heatspreader with 99% isopropyl alcohol and coffee filters. i've applied AS5 per the instructions on the Arctic Silver website but my idle temperature is 41c and load around 54c. I notice my mobo temp is 39c too..is that too hot for the mobo?

My cpu is an Opteron 165 @ 2.7 ghz (stock volts) and the mobo is a regular Asus A8n-SLi.

Right now I don't have any fan attached to CHA1; would this help?

Thanks

Those temps are just fine, you've got nothing to worry about.

i second this.

although installing fan would help also. maybe lower ur temps 2-3 degrees

glad to hear that my range is still "normal"...however it seems the majority of opteron 165 + ninja users have their temps idling in the 30s and loading in the mid to high 40s.

do you guys think the heat from the ram could be contributing to the higher temps? before i was running 1 gb mushkin value ram and i recently switched to a 2x1gb ocz kit which i put 2.7 volts in. on the mushkin kit i was idling around 36-37c

It's possible but no probable. Remember that when looking at other people's temperatures you need to keep in mind what environment they're in. Some people compute in their basement, some in rooms airconditioned to 65F. Summer is here with a vengance! :D

i thought the temps were due to the heat too but since the heat has cooled outside i still idle at 40c. i did cleaned and did a re-seat this time using a little more AS5 and i currently idle at 36-37c.

the thing that bugs me is that under dual stress prime (small ffts) the load temp goes all the way to 54-55c..thats a jump of almost 20c. other people seem to load around 48c with the ninja. what gives?

The thing is the temperature that matters isn't the idle, it's the load that will change most drastically on hot days.

Also, just to point out, when reseating the HSF you want to use as little AS5 as possible. After you've cleaned off the old thermal paste with whatever you use, apply the same amount of thermal paste as is shown in this photo.

What are you using to monitor temps btw? Some people are finding that Core Temp is giving them a more accurate look at the temperature of their CPUs.

i am using the new Speedfan beta. they have a new K8 core reading which tells you the core temp too. the core reading shows me idling around 28-29c but under load it jumps all the way to 54-55c.

I may give CoreTemp a shot when i'm home. is this what you use? how does it compare with the other popular monitoring tools?

I'm not sure if it's the same method Speedfan uses, and I believe CoreTemp is more accurate than typical motherboard software, but you can only go so far with software.

Give it a shot, and see what it tells you.

the description about the new speedfan beta (4.29 beta 13) says "This beta adds support for Athlon 64, Sempron and Opteron internal sensor temperature reporting. " so i'm guessing Core Temp would be referencing the same internal sensor. i'll post results when im home.

in the meantime if any of you guys are interested in the comparison and decide to try both of these programs out, please let us know the results :)

they both report the same core temps but CoreTemp has the added benefit of showing the core temperature of each core. Speedfan only shows one single core temp (maybe an average of the two?).

i guess the AS5 must have settled finally because now i idle around 34c and load at 48.

i forgot to mention that i also lowered the vcore down to 1.3v. i think that is mainly responsible for the change. before i had it around 1.36

Lowered the vcore huh? and it's still stable @ 2.7?

If you're in Texas like I am ...remember it's August. Perfectly normal temps ;)

seems to be..had it dual priming for 1.5 hours no errors before i shut down to let the AS5 break in. i'll run it longer and see how it goes

im in southern california but i know what ya mean ;) the heatwave here seems to have passed for now. before the temp got to over 100f today was around 81f.
