k little history here. i bought this notebook for school last summer because i started college in the fall. overall i was happy with it, its a hp pavillion zv5000 60 gig, intel pentium 4 ht 3.00ghz, ati mobility radeon 9000/9100 igp 128mb , and eventually i upgraded the memory to a healthy 757mb with a trip to crucial.

i played a few games on here. my girlfriend got me the sims 2 and it worked fine,, infact no slowdown that i could detect. rangnarok online and pso blue burst beta have run fine. only problems ive had were halo pc and city of heros when i played them. being at 128 mb i thought it would be performign better that my old desktop, 4 yr old dell demension with upgraded nvidia geforce 4 mx 440 64 mb. but infact that machine ran city of heros better than my laptop, much to my dismay

well i just installed everest because im a geek and stuff, and cant know enough about whats going on inside, and when i checked the GPU i got this

GPU Clock 157 MHz (original: 300 MHz)

has my card been underclocked, and if so, can i "reclock it" back to 300 safely? powerconsumption is not an issue for me, as i never use it off the battery for very long. all im worried about is melting my laptops innards. im a noob when it comes to clocking so any advice would be helpful. thank you

I'd get a second opinion on your speed before doing anything. Download RadClocker (just RadClocker, not RadLinker) http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/ It's the best OCing program for ATI cards IMHO because it is very efficient and not bloated like others If the latest version (v 2.030) doesn't detect the correct default clocks, try googling for an older version. Also, download the latest CATs and mod them yourself to work with your Mobility Radeon http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/

mobile radeons automaticly underclock themselfs in 2D do they not?

You probabaly find it does run at 300 in 3D.

thanks alot!

the radclocker timed it at about 297 so i guess it is fine after all. im still stumped as to why city of heros and halo ran so shittily when the laptop seems to be decent enough specs. i even edited their settings to ultra low end but they still resulted in missing textures and overall slowdown.

is there anything im not getting? or is it wrong to assume this much out of my laptop?

Your laptop has onboard video...that's why the more intensive games like Halo are slowin down. Not much you can do but make sure to use the latest CATs, OC a little bit with RadClocker, and set your Aperture Size (found in BIOS) to 128MB or 256MB to help out the IGP.
