Hey I'm looking into replacing my desktop. I've been having issues with overheating, etc. I started looking at the Mac Pro as a replacement because I don't do much gaming on my PC (besides World of Warcraft). Occasionally I come across something that i want to try out but im sure for that purpose I could use an emulator. In any case, I'm looking for a machine that will be able to handle multpiple operations such as running WoW, Dreamweaver, a few browser windows, and other various applications.

After looking at the Mac Pro and a few other desktops, someone recommended that I look into some sort of portable workstation.

Ideally what I want is a notebook capable of fairly heavy multitasking with the ability to play something simple such as WoW. Ideally I want a small package. If it's gonna be portable I want it to be 15.4" widescreen at most. 2gb memory (or 1gb with optional upgrade). I'm not too sure what processor would be ideal, but I was looking at Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz

Since I don't need the portability the majority of the time, the other specification I need is something cabable of using two monitors (with the aid of docking station/adapter). I want to dock the laptop and use keyboard/mouse/dual monitors at home.

Options so far:sw
- MacBook Pro 15"
- Alienware m3450 14"
- IBM T60

I don't think there's a docking station for MBP or Alienware. You can use a matrox adapter for 3monitor setup but as far as I remember, it's vga-only and 3840x1024 res max (so you can use 17-19" panels max due to the vertical resoultions). IBM or Dells advance docking station also support pci slot so you can add another video card for additional outputs (some matrox cards or something like a GF5500).

Look at Dell's Latitude D820/Precison M65 or D620 with 14" screen - should be significantly cheaper the IBM/Apple.
 
I'd check out the Dell M65 and the newly released Z61p thinkpad. The Z61p is a beast with a 15.4 widescreen (1920x1200), ati firegl V5200 and a T2500. Dell should have their Core 2 Duo offerings by the end of the month, Lenovo will have theirs in early Oct. if you're willing to wait a bit for merom.
 
You have overheating issues and you're looking at a MBP!?!?!?!?!?

Anyways, look at the Compal HEL80
 
I have a MBP and I love it. The OS was designed for multitasking efficiency from the ground up, so in terms of being able to to loads of stuff at once, it wins hands down. On the other hand, it does get rather hot, and it's only capable of driving one external monitor at a time (just has one Dual-Link DVI), so I'm not sure it's exactly what you're looking for. Apple might announce an upgrade or something at MacWorld Parison the 12th, so keep an eye out if you're interested in it.

I would personally stay away from the Alienware. I've had nothing but problems with their systems in the past, and I doubt being bought by Dell has changed that for the better.

The IBM T60 is a badass unit. You will be very happy with it, if you can justify the pricetag.
