Hello everyone. The standard mobile P4 versus the Pentium-M... i can't decide which one is better.

I know the M is more powerfull per clock cycle, but the most powerful M cant match the most powerful P4. Another issue is battery life. Anyone know how it compares on these two chips? Ive been looking around and can't find a good comparison.

Any info is appreciated.

IF battery life is of any concern get the Pent M.

The Pentium 4 Mobile is great as a mobile desktop. Bring to work, plug in, then bring home, plug in.

But on the road with out a power source... they suck.. up the juice quickly.

You can get a fancy 3Ghz high power gaming laptop... just dont plan on gaming for long with out a power source.

They are portable and as long as you have a plug, at your hotel, or dc plug for your car cigarette lighter, etc... you're great.

But for battery life.... the Pentium M is MUCH better. Its performance/battery life cant be beat.

Assuming you need the best mobile performance, the P4-M is best. Barring that, the Pentium M has comparable performance, twice the battery life of the P4-M (never mind the regular P4 which is sometimes used in laptops), and doesn't burn your leg as bad ;)

I only recommend the Pentium-Ms now. They are amazing processors. Unless you are going to be encoding DivX or something...

Pentium M with all my heart.
Only thing I noticed was some programs not recognizing is P4 but ran fine :p Cooler running quieter longer lasting. Cant ask for more :p. Have a feeling desktop chipset will change the direction after this presshot issues as well. (dual core centrino for desktop, etc?) I see presshot as sort of what pentium pro turned out to be. It will be fine in server rack where no one cares about noise level... but for home use... I just don't know.

just out of curiosity, has anyone noticed that Prescott is the name of one of the hottest damn cities in Arizona, like 130 degree temps. Just thought it was an interesting coincidence
