Mobile P4 3.06?

I have an issue, which needs some clarification over at the trade forums. Is there an Intel guru that can look over the thread and give an opinion on what RotKT may be seeing?

Synopsis: I made a deal to sell a 3.06GHz P4 533MHz, which I did to RotKT. He receives the chip, claims that its not a "desktop" chip (he never made the distinction in our dealing) and claims that it runs at 1.6GHz.

Sounds to me his board is underclocking it, but I am no OCer by any stretch of the imagination, so I ask the gods for help.

That was settled already in the thread you linked. You sold him a mobile P4 3.06, which will run at 1.6GHz in a regular board. I don't know what you need added to that.

Finally found out what was going on. Intel Enhanced Speedstep is to blame. HP handed over the power management to Windows, and XP always cut the speed of this CPU to half unless you specificaly say you want the power scheme to be "Always On".

Benchamrk showed some decent results... at last.

(I did find it a bit odd that the cpu fan almos never worked and the laptop didn't heat at all!)
