mobile i7 turbo boost?

can someone quickly explain how turbo boost works on laptops using an i7 CPU? is it like an on/off kind of thing? can you force it into turbo boost also time?

looking for a new work laptop but really out of touch of new CPUs

Not so much a CPU question but do they have tri-channel memory on laptops?

so out of the 4 actual cores, turbo allows one core to ramp up to a high speed.

Depending on power draw, temperature and active cores, the processor will ramp up speed on the active cores.

How high the active cores get clocked depends on the amount of active cores. The highest turbo boost frequency should only be available with one core active.

you cannot turn off turbo on most laptops .. its only active under load .

there are some laptops out that support tri channel memory ..

you cannot turn off turbo on most laptops .. its only active under load.

With software, you can turn off Turbo Boost on any laptop or desktop CPU.
