How would one go about using one (or a pair of) mobile GPUs with a Mini ITX board? The reason is obviously cramming as much power as possible into a small package (desktop graphics cards look ridiculously large next to a mini ITX board). Is there some sort of adapter that would allow one to do this?
 
Well it would have to be a pair of 480Ms or high end mobility Radeons, otherwise it would not be worth it. This is purely theoretical at this point but I have not seen it discussed anywhere else.
 
I remember someone parting out some HP i7 workstations in the FS/FT section last year that had 8800M gpu's in standard pci-e configurations.

I don't know how you would go about hooking up mxm modules to a desktop board, seems like you would need some sort of pci-e daughterboard caddy. I'm not sure they make such a thing.
 
So following that thread on notebook review I found a link to a Taiwanese company called Redtron, which apparently sells a PCIEx16 to MXM adapter. Their web site is beyond awful and all I could find was this PDF which shows it as still being under development.

I wrote them for more info but I doubt that I will hear back.
 
well, if you can custom design a case, perhaps a mITX board + x16 cable extender to place your GPU elsewhere, to make the entire case space efficient
