Mobile GPUs

Notebookcheck is pretty good.

Mobile graphics cards are almost always cut down versions of the desktop parts. Think about it - they have to cut the TDP by more than half in many cases. You can't do that without losing a ton of performance.

Can't say for sure re: Mobility Radeon HD 69x0, but I remember the Mobility Radeon HD 4870 and 4870x2 being relatively badass cards with much more fidelity to their desktop counterparts.

Anyways yeah I know the TDP has to be cut down. Just wonder if it is worth drawing the analogy of the 5870m being like a 5770 desktop versus the 6970m being like the 6870 desktop. I suppose the answer will be covered in time.

you are correct, the 5870m is a higher clocked 5770, the 460m is the same thing as the 260m, 360m with higher clocks and better memory. The 260m from my understanding is ONLY a 9800GT with half the memory bus.

Apart from cutting on TDP, you have to realize the resolutions these are going to run. Most of these cards are limited at 19x10 not to mention they have zero problem destroying most games at that resolution.

If you are looking for a good middle ground video card that wont suck your battery in one hour, the GT335m is a good pick for gaming laptops.
