I'm attaching a pic.
I picked up three sequentially #'d cpu's.
serial #'s 16 and 17 are the normal purple looking cores.
The last one serial # 18, is more of a lighter purple or bluish.
Anyone notice this with their cpu's?

You can't really tell by that pic, but that's the best one i could get.

no, like I said, you can't really tell from that pic..
can't turn the flash off on my digital camera, otherwise it might make a difference.

Maybe they use some sort of dye (to make it easier to see?) and the dye just got mixed different in that particular case?

I do think they have different steppings, but I couldn't see very well. Not that that proves much really.

Couple of years back I had heard that the lapping/grinding that is done on the AMD cores were different colors and it had to do with the grinding compound used and where it was manufactured, or even the particular machine that was used to do the grinding. IE Durons made at what was it FAB 18 in Texas had a green tint, and ones made at FAB 36 in Germany were blue. Or something along those lines.

the ghetto solution would be to cover your flash...

Not advised. It's very easy to blow your bulbs by doing that.

Also: Daaamn, you bought 3?

PIF me 1 :D

cores are identical.
steppings are identical.
serial numbers are sequential.
16,17,18
btw..I tried covering the flash..
pics come out black..even in well lit room..

Partially shield the flash then and no, the core color does not matter at all. I remember the substrate used to be green and now they use a brown one, but it doesn't affect performance or anything. Don't worry about it.
