“The Linux Kernel Preparing To Remove The Last Of Its MMX Optimized Code
3 November 06:18 AM EST - Linux Kernel - Ending MMX Optimizations - 22 Comments
For what will likely be merged to the Linux 7.5 kernel, the mainline kernel is preparing to drop its last optimization its been carrying for far outdated MMX processors. This affects the likes of Intel Pentium MMX and Pentium II processors running modern software with up-to-date kernels when Linux 7.5 is released in 2027.”

Specifically this is out of the 32bit raid controller.
Its not that MMX code can't be run on Linux. If someone wants to code new MMX extensions for some reason in software they could. This was a case of the kernel still having some actual MMX enhancements baked in still.

So anyone running a Pentium II server with a 32bit raid setup. Will loose some performance. :)

Good that they are cleaning some of this old stuff out, makes some of those older less watched bits more reliable when someone does for some odd reason need them. They have been slowly stripping down and simplifying a lot of the old 32bit things. Keeping at least workable and easier to fix simplified versions around.
