Anyone excited for the release March 3rd (Monday)? I'm a die hard baseball fan, I eat, sleep, dream baseball. This game was awesome last year and it's definitely looks like its gonna be the MLB game of the year. Can't wait for it to be released. I will be at Gamestop 12 AM to buy my copy.
 
I would be excited because it has been awhile since I have gotten into a baseball game and this one sparked my interests, so I DLed the demo on PSN, but damn!!! I can not seem to understand how to pitch at all, I let in 24 runs in just on pitching in one inning :(
 
I havent bought a MLB game in years, but ive been playing the PSN demo a lot and i really like what they have done with it. Its on my list to pick up march 3rd.
 
I'm pretty excited for Baseball in general, but MLB 08 the Show looks pretty great this season too. I'm waiting on reviews from both MLB 08 and MLB 2K8 before deciding, tho and I might end up getting a ps3 so I can get The Show on there, rather than getting it on ps2 but we'll see how the reviews go.

BTW: Amazon show The Show coming out on Feb 28th - anybody know if thats an "oops" or if the date was pushed up?
 
Ugh I wish baseball games could figure out how to deal with how the fans look...They look hideous in mlb08's demo...

Don't get me wrong...the players look AMAZING, and that is what they should focus on and they do look good. Just how bad the fans look gets me lol...I think the 2d version's look better then the plastic 3d fans they have this year. ;)
 
I'm not a big fan of MLB the show, the gameplay is lacking. The pitching style is boring, and gameplay in general is just boring. MVP on the other hand did just about everything right in ncaa mvp. I love the rock&fire throwing, pitching and batting. Its all done really well; however this year their contract ended with ncaa and they are just skipping this year. No baseball from mvp. On the brightside this forces me to really give mlb08 a try. I may not ever go back to mvp after forgetting about their fans. I havent tried mlb08, can anyone confirm if you still just puch a button to pitch and press a button to swing?
 
Yes, you press a button to pitch then you got to stop the meter in the green zone. Very simple.

Square is power swing, and X is contact swing.

I can't wait for this game. I've been playing the demo pretty much non-stop since I downloaded it. My sister already pre-ordered it for me for my birthday!

So do you hold the button down and let go when that meter flys back the other way? Just pushing the X button in the green kept throwing pitches all over the place for me.

Once you have selected your pitch, you hit X and watch the meter go up. As the meter goes past the Blue section, a notch is usually put in the middle (unless your pitcher is very tired) of the Blue. Ignore that and keep watching the meter rise. As it gets into the Yellow/Red area, you want to pick a good spot and hit X again. I say pick a good spot because you want to make sure your pitcher lasts a long time and throwing as hard as you can is a sure fire way to make him last about 3 innings. So you've hit X a second time, and now the meter starts to return the other direction. This time you want to hit X a third time as close as you can to the line that is in the Blue section.

Basically what this boils down to is, you hit X to start your windup. You hit X again to chose the power of the pitch (which is in the Red). Then you hit X one more time to pick the accuracy of the pitch (which is in the Blue).
 
Ok great thanks! I *thought* I was doing that when I last tried the demo but maybe I had a case of sudden tardism. I will try it again this weekend
 
how does this game typically compare to the 2k series? this year and years past? i picked up 2k for my 360 last year and it wasn't all that great. heck, there hasn't been a good baseball game since the mvp baseball series.

Well, I only have the demo but so I can't give a complete opinion. But I have played the 2K baseball games on the 360, and the new Show absolutely blows them away IMO. I felt like there were a lot of glitches in 2K, and the graphics were nothing special. Everything in the new Show feels really great. I kind of wish I could swing using the joystick instead of hitting X, but maybe that option will be in the final release.
 
Nice review on IGN for this game. went ahead and ordered the game for overnight delivery. Cant wait.
 
I had 07 the show for ps3 and 2k7 for 360....

the show sucked last year, but seems pretty awesome this year, i'll be picking it up on release.

Review for MLB 2K8 is finally out....

That finalized my decision I'm going to pickup The Show right now.
 
I am a 360 owner and got MLB 2K8 since I am a diehard baseball fan

Returning it tommorrow

Pros:
Fielding and Baserunning are finally up to par with other games besides one small problem

Cons:
Lags like shit makes everything worse
New pitching is horrid
Batting is harder, and probablly worse than last year
Meatball... enough is said
This is a baseball simulation
MLB 2K7 is better, period and that is bad
 
So I just got THe Show 08 last night and played pretty much all night long. Its wicked awesome, just as I expected. There are a few glitches that need to be taken care of, and it saves a TON of shit. I think my favorite new feature is being able to save in the middle of a game and exit, then pick up at the exact inning you left off at whenever you want. Pretty sweet.
 
Played the Road to the Show mode for about 2 hrs. Pretty good stuff.

Did anyone else have a problem with the game going to get the Terms of Use before launching the game menu? I had to unplug the ethernet cord from my ps3 to get it past it. It would just sit there trying to retrieve user license indefinitely. This was between 730-9pm CST I havent tried it any other time yet.

After seeing the MLB2k8 reviews, gotta feel pretty good about having a PS3 with the best baseball game.
 
Yes, MLB The Show is great this year. They definitely need to work on their online play though. Way too much lag and glitches.

It's not my connection either because FiOS is amazing.
 
any former mvp baseball fans care to comment on mlb 08 the show? as much as i despise ea, mvp baseball was something they got right and something that created a high standard for baseball games to live up to which sadly the 2k series has never done.
 
I have 1 comment to make about this that I absolutely HATE. For the entire "The Show" series so far, every single button configuration has been the bases are the buttons as if 'X' was home plate. It makes sense that way, and they continue to do it in this release. However, why in the HELL did they make it so that when you are playing Road to the Show, the buttons are all backwards. I understand that I am standing in a different position now, but you can't just make the buttons completely the same, then just change it without any notice for one game mode. That pissed me off bad when I was trying to get a double play and it would keep throwing the ball to home when I pressed triangle. Other than that though, great game.

Im a former MVP fan, but the last MVP game i bought was 04. I havent bought a single MLB game since due to none of them living up to my expectations.

That being said, after playing the demo for MLB the show 08 i figured id give it a shot. I liked how it played. The fielding, batting, etc all felt good. After 4 years of not playing a MVP game its hard to say right away how close to it it feels, but all i know is that im enjoying this game thoroughly and i think it does MLB games more than justice.

The road to the show mode is really fun. I started it off and was like meh, boring, but after 2 days with the game its all ive been playing. I havent even played a regular baseball exhibition/dynasty game yet.
 
Its been about 4-5 years since i played a baseball games, not since the High Heat series started to suck.

I own a 360 and PS3 and after reading the reviews, decided to go with MLB 08. First impressions were WOW. The players look and ACT like the real thing. I'm a huge red sox fan and each player mimics the real player's mannerisms exactly. Visuals are also awesome, ballparks look like the real thing. The sounds are also authentic, with the commentators doing an awesome job. My girlfriend was in the other room and thought I was watching a real game. I didn't take the time to read through the manual (too eager) so i made some silly mistakes, but nonetheless the game is easy to learn and the in-game tips are usually helpful.

The only problem I saw with the game were two AI glitches (both were CPU fielding issues) that occurred during a couple games I played. The first one was where I hit a slow fly ball to deep left and the shortstop ran all the way out there to make the play near the warning track while the LF just stood there and watched. The second was another ball i hit, a slow grounder between 1st and 2nd that barely made the outfield. Both the 2nd baseman and RF ran up to it, but stopped and looked at it. The ball just stood there until the Catcher came up to pick it up.

I'm probably going to be working in season mode, so i'm not sure how often these issues will present themselves over 162 games. If the glitches don't occur too often, then the game will be very enjoyable.
 
I have been playing baseball games for years. All the way back to Atari 2600 baseball where you got to control three guys at once. You made the pitch and when the batter hit the ball you moved all the fielders at one time! LOL

That eventually made way for baseball on the Intelli-vision, then RBI Baseball, High Heat, MVP, MLB The show '07, and now The Show '08. I think this is the best version of a baseball game I have played. It is VERY enjoyable. The graphics are amazing, the commentary is very good, but above all, the game play is fun. I find the pitching and hitting to be very enjoyable. It is difficult to find things I do not like. I had some issues with MLB '07 in the career mode such as getting demoted to AAA after winning the MVP and the prior year and batting .400 and leading the league in HR's. Things like that made the career less fun. I have no idea if that has been fixed here.

MVP Baseball had a better fielding interface in my opinion. I miss using the right analogue joystick for dives and catches. You can do them here in MLB Show but you push down to dive and up to jump regardless of where the ball is. I find the batting to be MUCH more interesting in The Show versus MVP. You really need to guess the pitch type andf location to do well hitting. It teaches you to be selective much more than MVP. Also, you can choose what you want to hit and wait and see if it comes to you. If you get to 2 strikes and have not gotten your pitch THEN you start swinging at crap. If you did not get that fastball grooved like you wanted it is very unlikely you will get an extra base hit or homerun. Whereas in MVP you basically could puch up and in and hit nearly anything out of th epark if you timed it right.

Pitching feels similiar between the two except that MLB seems to punish you if you are giving up lots of hits, missing the strike zone, or getting tired. MVP did not reflect thse changes in your pitcher much, if at all.

I have only played for about two hours so far, but I am really enjoying the game. I have been playing some sort of baseball on the PC, PSP or PS3 everyday for years now. This is the best baseball game I can remember playing. It is very well done.

Of course, YMMV.
 
My PS2 didn't sell on eBay last night, so looks I'll be giving "MLB '08 The Show" and "MLB 2K8" a chance.

I own "MLB '07 The Show" and I've played it once. Not a bad game, but the controls can get complicated. My favorite game is still "MVP Baseball 2005" and "MVP Baseball 2004" for the Xbox. Just wish I could update the rosters. I love a good solid game with easy controls and no non-sense.

I found "Major League Baseball 2K7" for the Xbox was too complicated with too much unneeded crap. But "MLB '08 The Show" is a step in the right direction with some interesting features. Hopefully these '08 games have improved since last year.

Anyone know of a spot online where I can find detailed information regarding all the features of these new games? Such as the different modes, settings, tweaks, tips, cheats, etc...

EDIT:// Never played a PC version of any baseball game except an old Windows 3.1 game years ago, but I've been playing console baseball games since the days of the original Playstation, including the PS1 itself, the PSP, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, etc. When I pick up an Xbox360 and/or PS3, I hope to continue playing them, but for now the PS2 will have to do.

Please tell us if anyone finds a way to not make the controls invert on the base throwing. This is really a pain in the ass. But thats really my only complaint.
 
If you guys have noticed, when your playing defense in Road to The Show your right behind your player, in a Season/Franchise/Exhibition game you're pitching obviously so you see the ball get hit from the hitters perspective, well if you are where the hitter is, X is home, Circle is 1st, Triangle 2nd, and Square is 3rd base. Well from the opposite end from homeplate it's 2nd base, Triangle is home, Square is 1st, X is 2nd, and O is first.

It makes a lot of sense for them to do that.

I agree that it makes sense, but what they did was just change the controller layout and never gave a pop-up or any kind of explanation about it. Its not even in the manual that comes with the game. I was just pissed that I lost a couple of my first games because I've been so used to the normal layout for years.
 
I can't get into these new baseball games.... overly complicated... I miss RBI & Tecmo Baseball... oh the memories...
