On a mobo that accepts PC2700 could I use a 512mb stock of 2700 and one of 3200 or would that cause problems? What if the mobo did support PC3200?

This is probably a stupid question but thatnks for any answers.

It'll default to the speed of the slower stick of the two...

Just keep in mind that cheap RAM sometimes refuses to run out of stock speeds, regardless if it's faster or slower, just just keep that in mind.

also keep in mind the memory timings. If the 2700 memory runs at lower timings and you stick in the pc3200, the pc3200 may run more relaxed timings, and if it can't handle the lower timings of the 2700, it may not even post. To remedy this, go to your BIOS, set the memory timings to "optimal" or whatever the highest timings are, then put the 3200 in, and then boot. Play with the timings from there, and see where it goes!
