I think I already know the answer to this, but...
If I put a stick of Geil pc3200 in with my corsair xms pc3200 will it cause problems?

or would they run ok if I set manual timings for them to run by?
just a thought.

I don't know if I want to lower my xms memory down to the geil standards  heh..

but what the hell... what would happen?

Theoretically, it should work.

In practice, it usually works—full-blown incompatibility is pretty rare. You'll probably have to run at looser timings than either stick could manage on its own, though.

they should work together, just get the second ram stick the same size.

I would run Memtest86 on each stick by itself.
If no errors then try Memtest86 with both sticks in and loose timeings.
If still no errors then tighten the timeing to normal and pray [H]ard when you run Memtest86 again.

If all goes well then you know you memory is ok.
If you get errors with both sticks in together then try swopping slots.

Luck......:D

Just an addition to what others have already said...the slowest memory module will dictate system speed and and stability. Since you'll be running 2 sticks with the same speed rating (PC3200), that's not an issue. However, if one is CAS2 and the other is CAS3, chances are good that you'll have to run at CAS3 to gain stability. Still, if you manage to get the same CAS timings and speed ratings, some sticks can be temperamental to different motherboards, chipsets, and/or voltages. I would say stick to the same brand of memory you already have. Otherwise, don't be shocked if things didn't work out.

the two should work together but any overclocking is not guaranteed

Exactly what I was going to say. It should be fine, but it's not guaranteed.
