So the dilemma is this:
All the 270X cards I have run fantastic using -g1 for gpu-threads. Not so great with -g2.
I'm adding a 280X card but it runs 150KH/s faster using -g2 for gpu-threads.

Apparently you can not set the -g option in cgminer differently for individual cards like you can say "gpu-engine" : "1100,1120,1140"

I tried and I get an error, even though cgminer starts.
I believe I have read there is a way you can specify which cards to use when you start an instance of cgminer but I can't locate where I read that.
Any one have a link?
I want to try running one instance for the 270X cards with -g1 and a second instance for the 280X card with -g2.

try sgminer I think that was one of the things added to it. There have been some branches away from the main cgminer that added that specifically.

I've had a nightmare mixing cards though. I didn't realize the 270x's ran better with g1, I'll give them a try but I was getting around 450k on all of my 270x's and haven't bothered tuning more.

I badly need my risers to get here so I can try to spread things out properly. Heat is killing me right now with the recent expansion!

270X with -g2
What other settings are you using with that to get the 450?
With -g2 so far my settings only get about 390K on the 270X.
With -g1 I can run steady at 480K.
I'd like to get close to that along with the 280X pulling above 750K which it can with -g2.....

Make another cgminer directory and run 2 instances of cgminer with appreciate DEVICE numbers.

The first instance run your -g2 cards only.

The second instance run your -g1 cards with the appropriate DEVICE command, BUT keep your -g2 card settings in the command line (core & memory speeds) so you don't change THEIR settings when running the second instance of cgminer.

A bit tricky, but I run a mixed rig like that with 2x 280x, a 5870 and a 5830 leftover cards at full speed.

I need to look up the "device numbers" tag.
Can it be used in a config file instead of command line?

Same question about config file vs. command line.

For command line, it's just -d X where X is the device(s) you want to run.

Run cgminer -n to list out your cards by device number.

Same question about config file vs. command line.

Run a separate BAT file for each instance. (Or a Bat file to start each instance in sequence.)

Here is an example of a setup after you map out your cards with the -n command :

-n gives me :

Devive 0 : 280x
Device 1 : 280x
Device 2 : 5870
Device 3 : 5830

Instance 1 :
--device 0,1 --scrypt --thread-concurrency 8192 -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-engine 1080,1080 --gpu-memclock 1500,1500

Instance 2:
--device 2,3 --scrypt --thread-concurrency 8000,6144 -I 13,13,18,18 -g 1 -w 256 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-engine 1080,1080,850,850 --gpu-memclock 1500,1500,1000,1000

Gives me 750kh, 750kh, 405kh, 300kh = 2.2mh for that rig.

Hope it helps, took me a while the first time to puzzle that one out properly.

Can a 7950 run well at -g2? Was thinking about mixing a 280x with my existing 7950 on one of my rigs.

There's a fork of cgminer at http://k-dev.net/cgminer that can accept multiple values for -g . You can use it to run one instance of cgminer with optimal settings for the 270x and 280x. There is also a link there to the Lantis optimized .cl files that can improve hash by ~5%. The .cl miners can be used with the current cgminer, just delete your *.bin before using.

H.

I got a 280x and 270x working in my rig using the Kalroth cgminer and doing the following,

First running a very vanilla batch file:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
timeout /t 4
cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://themagepool.com:3333 -u -p

Once cgminer got started I had it spit out a conf file and then I put in all my desired values as such: (while cgminer is running,, press S, then W to get a Conf file). * note you must have your card order figured out to adjust accordingly*

{
"pools" : [
{
"url" : "stratum+tcp://themagepool.com:3333",
"user" : "",
"pass" : ""
}
]
,
"intensity" : "13,20",
"vectors" : "1,1",
"worksize" : "256,256",
"lookup-gap" : "2,2",
"gpu-threads" : "2,1",
"thread-concurrency" : "8193,22000",
"api-mcast-port" : "4028",
"api-port" : "4028",
"expiry" : "1",
"failover-switch-delay" : "60",
"gpu-dyninterval" : "7",
"gpu-platform" : "0",
"log" : "5",
"log-dateformat" : "0",
"no-pool-disable" : true,
"queue" : "1",
"scan-time" : "1",
"scrypt" : true,
"temp-hysteresis" : "3",
"shares" : "0",
"kernel-path" : "/usr/local/bin"
}

and I ended up with this:
Capture.PNG

Now I have to figure out how to adjust my rejects on my second card.... :)

Running Linux here. No Windoze if I can help it.
I hope to have time to try Yakk's method listed above since I won't need to recompile cgminer to run it.
By the way, your numbers WLL77 are what I am getting now with both at "-g1".
I expect to get the 280X over 750 once I get it running "-g2". (Fingers crossed).

You could try sgminer then as _r2h said. It was made for linux. The config file and such is really not different at all. Main thing is that you don't have to use the "--script" argument.

google sgminer,, should find a reddit and litecointalk links which both have tons of info on running in linux.

Edit: read a little deeper,, i see, you don't want to have to mess with recompiling, have only dabbled with linux,, so I know that can be a bit of a hassle.
My 280x,, is a sapphire dualX and it was a pain to get to higher hash rates,,, originally was at like 670kh,,, one major tip I came across was using a thread concurrency of 8193,, for some reason the odd number really works. that screen is a little off too, due to cgminer slowing down when I open anything,, the 280x runs at 735khz.

Thanks. Not quite a noob to linux compiling but getting all the files local that are needed to compile was a hassle when I first did it for this version of 3.7.2 that I am running.
I was able to get Yakk's double cgminer load running with better results.
Still getting 480KH/s with the two 270X cards and now I am getting 715KH/s with the 280X.
Lowering the core clock to 1020 instead of 1100 was the best boost I saw.
Can't see your clock settings in that picture.

Clock is set at 1050. Have been messing with undervolting as well,, have it down to 1084 in afterburner.

Easy solution: wrong multiple instances of cgminer. Run the 280X in one instance. Run the other cards in the other instance.

I use guiminer and just run multiple instances, works fine and I'm getting a pretty good hash rate. 280x, 7750, and 6400k apu.

sgminer support multiple -g values.

Alright. Running multiple instances of cgminer 3.7.2 "sort of" worked.
But looking at the results I could see the second instance start and it would actually change some values in the first instance setup :(

So I but the bullet and compiled the latest two versions of sgminer.
Damn it if I don't get this error when I start with two values for gpu-threads:

[18:55:09] ./sgminer: --gpu-threads: '1,1,2' is not a number
And no, I am not using single quotes in the config file....

Any ideas?

That is why in my example above I put all the values in the second instance.

Didn't seem to matter, and I tried starting both first and last but either would affect the other, eventually.
