Hello, i just upgraded my tri-channel memory from 3x 2G sticks to 3x 4G sticks, i had Corsair Dominators 1866 and now i picked up Mushkin 1600's -- im curious if i should bother to ADD the Corsair back to the Mushkins as additional ram or if i should just leave the Mushkins in there alone -- im under the impression that it would work to use both but that being different brands/speeds/latencies that they would run at a decreased performance and possibly have issues with eachother...
questions comes down to, is it worth it to have both together or is it not worth the possible problems? and if it does work whats the worst case scenario? the new ram being slower than the old ram i would guess that they all just run at the same speed as the new mushkin? (i read that the i7 930 couldnt even handle the 1866 or even 1600 speeds, so i just picked the one size higher than the cpu supposedly can handle to be sure it runs at speed, not sure if thats even nessessary either, or maby it was cause of something i read on OC'ing to have higher rated ram... shrug) so thats why i went with 1600 as the new ram...
Sorry if that was kinda confusing, tryin to explain alot in as little text...
TDLR: Had 3x2G Dominator 1866 (Low Latency) -- Got 3x4G Mushkin 1600 (Basic 9 Latency) to replace, wondering if i should bother putting both in together...
Also, what does it even take to use up over 12g of ram, or are there benefits of havin ram in all 6 slots? im not sure if i even used up my 6g, went to 12g just incase i needed it with 680 4GB SLi running 7680x1440 resolution - read somewhere you wanted to have as much Ram as VRam but no idea...
Any information related to anything i wrote about would be appreciated, i love to learn so even if theres somethin i didnt specifically ask related to, id love to learn.....
