Mix different vendors for SLI?

Noob question:

Can I mix different vendors of 980 Ti boards and SLI them together? If so, any disadvantages in doing so? Should I sell the different one and buy the exact same card from the same vendor?

Yes you can, and there are no disadvantages really. Different companies might have different heatsinks on their models, which might make them look mismatched. Clocks might be slightly different if one or both is a pre-overclocked model. Neither of those are deal breakers from the tech side of things.

If you don't want to mess around with bios flash and/or different clock speed settings in AB or PX then best to use the same models. Otherwise, you can always set clocks in AB or PX for whatever is stable for you in SLi without having these programs run in the background.

Which vendors do you currently have and what do you want to do with these cards. Also what is the ASIC quality of the cards. You may want to sell one with lower ASIC before you run the silicon lottery again .

it's not worth the cash hit to sell one card, just to match vendors.

Buy whatever is least expensive and SLi away

If they're reference design it will work best. I have two 980s in SLI. One is Asus and the other is Gigabyte. No issues whatsoever.

I did it with 770s with a gigabyte and evga both nonreference. Different manufacturers and different clocks. Ran fine. It doesn't matter for the 980ti but if you get cards with different amounts of vram its limited to the lower of the two when on sli.
