Mix and Match Koolance & DD

Any thoughts on using two Koolance VID-NV2-L06 card coolers for SLI with a Danger Den RBX CPU Block in an DFI SLI-DR mobo? The only issue I see (and it may be more of a big deal than I realize) is reducing the 1/2" fittings on the RBX to 1/4" into the VGA blocks.

Should I order the RBX with 3/8" fittings instead? How much will this limit CPU cooling?

I heard that reducing the fittings from larger to smaller fitting once can reduce the cooling efficiency of your system. Reducing it twice may be worse. However, having a good water pump and minimize this. Also, if you have the video card cooler in series then you essentially will only be reducing the fitting size once (going from the cpu at large fitting to the first video at smaller fitting, first and second video card staying at the same fitting size, and converting back from smaller fitting of the second video card to the larger fitting size of the radiator). I am having a similar thing done going from the same graphics card cooler to a 3/8ID fitting of Black Ice Pro 2 radiator. I will see what will happen this weekend.

if your using a koolance system then you shouldnt be using that danger den block. a copper block will cause an aluminum radiator to corrode
 
If you're running a non Koolance pump and rad it will be fine, here's what you do..order the RBX with 3/8" fittings, get a pair of the Koolance 3/8" to 2x 1/4" fittings and run the 3/8" into one splitter, run each of the dual 1/4" lines to a card and from the cards back to the other splitter and that goes back to 3/8". The dual 1/4" hoses running parallel will give you the effective area of a 3/8" hose so your flow will not be impacted negatively.
 
you would probably get more input on this over in the watercooling forum.

koolance pump is for low-flow usage, DD block is for high flow usage. match your hardware to use the same methodology. swiftech block performs better than DD at low fow.
 
To clarify the parts I'm looking to use it's going to be a primarily DangerDen setup but the low profile maze 4 GPU blocks just don't inspire me.

DD RBX CPU Block
DD D5 Pump
Black Ice Extreme II radiator
Tygon tubing
Koolance CHC-A05 chipset cooler
Previously mentioned Koolance GPU blocks

My rationale behind the RBX vs. the TDX is with the dual outputs I can go directly to the GPU blocks without an additional Y fitting. But now it looks like I'll need a reducer going into and out of the GPU blocks.

I've read the DD products like having high flow so my main goals are
1. Keep everything as efficient and cool with as much flow as possible and
2. Don't gunk anything up with different metals in the system.

Go ahead and ring in with any more ideas.
 
Those do look pretty sharp but don't cool the RAM. What other CPU block do you have in mind? At this point I'm open to suggestions as long as I don't have to re-work this entire idea all over again.

I'm beginning to wonder if fans were so bad!
 
trying to watercool the GDDR3 that is on any modern video card is pointless. the memory does not produce enough heat to make watercooling it worthwhile. stick some copper ramsinks on there and have done with it.

watercooling won't keep the memory cooler by a big enough margin to overclock it any higher, and it is difficult to get good contact with all the memory chips in adition to the core.

not true at all...i had a 6800gt for along time with copper ramsinks and a water cooled core and one time i touched those sinks and it melted my skin. However the ones on my x850xt dont get that hot

the ramsinks on my 9800 pro also get really hot, if there is no good airflow around the card.

sticking a low CFM fan like the zalman OP-1 from my old HP-80C keeps the sinks at a temperature that is definately warm, but not hot. if that little bit of air movement is doing the job, then the memory isn't producing all that much heat.

hopefully i'll be able to offer first-hand commentary on GDDR3 on a modern card (cross fingers for X850XT) before the end of july.

my x850xt's ram doesnt get anywhere near as hot as the ram on my old 6800gt and i had a 120mm fan blowing on top of the card (to the side of when case is upright)
