MITX or MATX

I have my parts picked out, only differences performance wise are the cases (sg05 and Sg10) and cpus (4670k on the itx with in oc room and 3570k with oc room) I like the small size, but I also prefer not to be limited with performance. What do you guys think?
 
Mitx has only 1 pci e slot while MATX has 2 pci e slots. Performance, they should be completely identical. If you dont plan in crossfire / SLI, go with mitx otherwise mitx. if you plan in adding sound card, lan card, wifi card or so on, Matx is your choice. although, most of mitx boards if you pay more, they include a wireless connectivity

Checked it out, I'm going eith the sg08 now, it's like 20 dollars more but the performance is so much better! I can actually oc now!
 
for 99% of the consumer market ITX is fine. If you are going to add any cards other than 1 GPU go mATX. Chances are, if you are not sure, you will never add a card. My current build I went ATX in case I wanted to a a USB car, sound card, ect. and of course I never added anything. Next build i will go ITX, never ATX again.
 
The ONLY reason to pick mATX over mITX is if you want to run dual graphics cards.

If your only going to use a single graphics card, then ITX builds are just as fast.
 
Pick your cooler before you decide on a case. Since I didn't want to compromise on CPU cooling I went with Noctua NH-U9B SE2 cooler with mITX mobo but the cooler won't fit in most ITX cases so ended up with mATX Fractal Design Core 1000.
 
I fit silverstone NT06 cooler in SG05 case.
MSI motherboard z87I ac gaming.
Also fit a gtx 770 :)

That's exactly what I did. I built my last computer (Z77, i5-3570K) around a microATX motherboard, thinking that I may want to add a video card and possibly a sound card. Never had a need for either, so I have a pretty big case that contains nothing but the motherboard & CPU, an SSD, an HDD, an optical drive, and power supply. I should probably just roll it into a miniITX case, but I love how quiet the Fractal Design Define Mini case is.

One advantage to microATX/ATX is that the motherboard will generally have four RAM slots instead of the miniITX's two, so upgrading memory can be easier. For example. to go from 2 x 4GB, it's easier and cheaper to add two modules than to replace two.

bah. Great options for both and again, cooling is more a factor of the case, not MB form factor except maybe header counts.

A better way to put that would be dedicated GPU + Dedicated sound + dedicated...

Outside of USB, you don't have a way of having all those options in an ITX build.

If absolute smallest footprint is your goal, definitely go ITX. But there's a strong argument to be made for having options.

Yes, I meant dedicated GPU + dedicated sound + anything else (TV card, wireless...)

Yes, but I don't see a point in getting a mITX if you're not going to put it in a small case. uATX cases are larger than SFF/mITX, offer more HDD slots and better cooling options, in general.

There are mini ITX cases that can support long video cards (Silverstone SG08, Cooler Master Elite 120/130) or multiple hard drives (Lian Li PC-Q25, Silverstone DS380). There are also cases that are designed for CPU overclocking (BitFenix Prodigy, Corsair 250D).

While having a smaller footprint was the original intent of mini ITX (and micro ATX, too, when it was first popularized), there are now multiple options available to meet the needs of each user.
 
The main point is that you still have options with mini ITX. You may not have as many options as micro ATX offers, but they're still there.

Going back to the first post, if the OP is running one video card, one hard drive, and one SSD, he could find plenty of options with either micro ATX or mini ITX. He only has to decide how much of a priority having a small footprint is to him.
