My brother has a DELL laptop in which he kept tonnes of pictures in a folder on a desktop.

He was viewing it today and left the machine on and went out.

When he came back, the folder was gone. Did a search without luck. If you go to Recent Documents, a file from that folder is listed, but if you click on it...it cant find it.

I did a System Restore and poof the folder reappeared and all the sub folders (30+) were there too by they are all empty. No one could have accessed the machine and deleted them.

Any ideas how to get it back ? :( hes running Win XP Home Edition SP2

TIA

Question: Where you looking at these pictures with picasa?

No problem, just recover the files from the backup. He has a backup, right?

You could try using an undelete utility like NTFS Undelete to see is perhaps they will show up, but if you say they weren't deleted, then I don't know if that will help.

Seriously, use this as a lesson about why backups are important. Not everyone is going to have a UPS'd raid 5 Server, but anyone can buy a 2 gig flash drive for 8 bucks.
