Misreading OC on Phenom 9850

So, as it's described in my sig...I have my phenom 9850 oc'd to 3.5GHz. Or so I thought until today. I open up everest and it shows it's running at stock speeds, cpu-z also shows the same thing. However when I click on my computer and hit properties, windows shows it at the full 3.5GHz. Also, in the bios the multiplier remains exactly where I put it every time I check it. This is a little confusing to me since I'm not really that into overclocking, or I should say haven't been in the past. Is this just some kind of reporting error, or is the OC not taking and bios resetting it before booting into windows or something along those lines?

If need be I'll post screenies of cpu-z and everest with the windows computer properties. But I'm not doing it right now because I don't know if it's relevant.
 
i am not 100% sure on phenoms but my intel Q6600 runs at stock 9x266 when it is idle it lowers to 6x266. so when your CPU is idle it down clocks. to test this just open up cpuz and then load prime and see it clocks back up. so if i where to open up cpuz it would see 1.6 then when i load prime it goes right up to 2.4




also i find windows reports cpu speed funny. if run my q6600 at 8x400 it reports my cpu speed as 3.6 in windows when it is only 3.2. if i clock it at 9x370 it shows cpu speed of 2.4 in windows if i do 9x366 it shows 3.3 in windows.


so you either are just looking at an idle processor that down clocks to save power when or windows just reporting cpu speed funny. i would base your actual overclock on multi x bus speed.
 
Well, that was what I had initially thought, but I turned off AMD cool & quiet which controls that and still no change. I'll try loading prime while cpu-z is open and see if that changes it.
 
what is your FSB(HT)running at and what multiplier are you using? best bet is that the overclocks failing and going to fail safe stock even though the bios saves your overclock.. do you ever notice a hesitation in the boot up process?
 
FSB is still at stock 200. Multiplier was up to x17 and I just tried dropping it to x15 and it still doesn't show it in everest or cpu-z. Windows shows the 3.0GHz that it should be though. There's no hesitation or anything during boot so I don't think it's reverting to stock speeds. Could this just be an issue with my motherboard and the way the diagnostic programs try to detect overclocks? I ran the source engine stress test at stock speed and then put the multiplier to 15x and there was about a 4fps performance gain, so I'm sure the overclock is taking, it's just being reported wrong.
