Question for ya'll. A friend of mine got some aluminum ramsinks, and didn't need them so he gave them to me.

They are rectangular (ie the shape of a ram module on a stick of ram). My ram came with heatspreaders (which don't help, i know), so I'm not gonna put them on my RAM. The other places I thought to put them were on my 9600 Pro, or the PLLs on my mobo.

I'd rather put them on the 9600pro, but the ram on the 9600pro is square shaped, so the ramsinks would hang off a bit on the sides, and not cover the whole module. Would this still help, or would it be a better bet to throw them onto the mobo where they'd overhang?
 
Hmm well if they don't cover the videocard heatsink all the way it won't be ideal, but they would still be better then nothing. Those ramsinks are for older video cards, like the memory on a ti4200.

Maybe putting them on the pll chip would be better, but I really don't know if cooling the pll chips ans MOSFETs really do anything significant.

As long as its making contact, and not hitting anything first around the ram.

but what if it's not compltley covering the module?
 
Oh sorry, i didnt see that you mentioned it would not cover the whole thing, I just saw the hanging off a bit on either side.

Not really sure on ram, but if it was me I would want it to cover the whole ram. Because I don't really know what is the hotest spots on ram to know which part of it to cover.
 
as long as it doesnt touch more than your ram AND covers the entire chip, youll be fine. if it is big enough, you could try cutting it in half or how ever much you need and just use that.
