thinking of sticking PC out on porch to attempt a higher o/c with this xp-m

currently can only get 2.5ghz out of it (its a xpm2500)

any thoughts?
 
with slk-800 my 2600 xp-mobile did 2.6 ghtz with a 40 cfm 80mm 105F load ~75 F ambient imagine what it could do with -30C ambient :eek:
 
did this last year with my roomates PC
his o/c was nominal , i think because of his ram / mobo combo at the time.

his HD's survived fine running at -25 for 1/2 hr.
the cool thing was that his CPU temp was like +5 celcius at full load (xp1700@2.25, volcano7 )
chipset was at -5 or so :)

the only thing holding me back today is the fact that i would have to let the PC sit for
an hour or so after bringing it back inside , to let the condensation evaporate.

it took about 5mins of sitting in my truck with the clutch inthis morning till it warmed up enough to sit by itself and idle,

i'm not sure but , perhaps with a few more beers :) ill be willing to brave the outside again today .

edit: i started this thread before i had actualy went outside , now after driving around with square tires , im thinking that a few more beers are needed to adjust my ambitions :p
 
I read somewhere its really dangerous to drink in cold weather, it numbs your senses so you dont feel as cold when you should and it also lowers the heat in your limbs so you cna get frostbite faster. I think thats true...
 
I've done this with an old p2-450 when it was -35C without wind.

Computer ran at 600mhz no problem. Unfortuneatly the mobo didn't have a higher fsb...

Had to let it "unthaw", it got lots of condensation when I brought it back inside.

Ran for years afterwards and it's still kickin :D
 
man that's too freekn cold.. how (where) can you live like this??

couldn't you just ghetto-rig something up in the window so that your cables could pass through but the lexan-encased mobo could sit outside? Leaving the rest of the computer to sit inside where it can operate under normal temps.

I would try it, but I am building another case right now and will soon be leaving stupid-butt-cold-dumb-annoying-Minnesota behind for warmer temps.....Brea, CA to be exact! :D

And yes....that is the correct name of Minnesota....they just can't fit it all on the official seals or flag. Why they chose to shorten it to Minnesota I will never understand, because it is missleading. ;)
 
Can't you just open a window and wear a blanket?...that's what I'd do...Mmmm...feather blanket...
