My dad is letting me play with his Minolta X700 SLR from the 1980's, and after I get the batteries and everything replaced, flash units checked out, etc., I'm going to use some film from my school to play with it, and also develop it, without spending a load of cash on film and development.

Anyways, I have a few lens to choose from. Apart from the 50mm prime lens, which is MD, they are all MC. I'm not exactly sure what the difference between MC and MD is, apart from the camera supposedly flashing warnings when in Program Exposure mode. This isn't my main question, but if it can be answered I'd be happy.

My real question is this: Is there a way to get my ancient MC lens working on something accepting the AF lens? I ask because I am interested in this "Dynax 7 Digital/Maxxum 7" that Konica Minolta is supposed to release before long. Will my MC lens work in it if it accepts AF lens, or is there some adapter to make it work?

Perhaps that DSLR will be out of my reach in price, but it would be fun to get if I could use any of my dad's lens on it. I'm really wanting to get a nice cheap DSLR, since I've come to really dislike my camera (Nikon CoolPix 995) in low-light conditions...

Lens:
Vivitar 35-70, f2.8-3.8, Macro Focus
Vivitar 28-90, f2.8-3.5, Macro Focus
Minolta 50mm Prime, f1.7
Some 3x Teleconverter
Assorted Filters (including Polarized) & Filter Holder thing

I'm a fan of Minolta, I own an X-570 and some lenses. (135mm 2.8 is the only one worth mentioning.) You can find all your answers and more info at the Minolta Users Group website the address is http://www.sds.com/mug/

Thanks, the link shows that Minolta uses their own Bayonett A Mount or something like that. Although I can't find anything that mentions my X700 with the mount worded exactly like that, I came across a page that said Minolta's newest 2001 manual focus lens can work on their oldest 1958 manual focus camera. I think my camera is easily covered by this time frame to be considered using the Minolta A Mount.

The only issue may be autofocus vs. manual focus. But I came across an adapter for ~$40 that should work. So now I just have to wait to see how much this new camera from Minolta will cost...and of course the reviews...

The only reason to use an MF lens on an AF body would be the quality of the lens. Your vivitar lenses are not going to be worth using since the digital SLR from Konica-Minolta is presumably going to offer a better zoom for only a little bit more then if you purchased the body on it's own. But, pick up a good photography book and learn. Regardless of if you use the X-700 or not you should learn how to really take advantage of a digital SLR if that's what you get.
