Mining on Firepro W7000

Has anyone mined ETC using a Firepro W7000 or something similar? I've been using Claymore and the card throttles from 1150Mhz core clock to 150 MHz somewhere after 3 minutes of running. I've tried lowering the core clock and increasing fan speed but the car still eventually reaches 100 Celsius which then I have to restart the PC to get it back to normal.
 
100C! wow. odd that its still going higher when the GPU clocks back down to 150MHZ. Does the card work ok under normal (gaming / designed) work loads?
 
I don't think the cooler on that card is good enough for a heavy, sustained load. It's just a single slot cooler with a dinky fan that reminds me of what they used on the old 4850 Radeon.
CAD work in general is in many ways much less demanding than games. You don't have anything moving around fast, and there is less overall detail/textures, etc. The cards don't need great cooling.
Still with that being said, I would change the TIM just to see if that helps with the heat transfer. Maybe it had a crappy job done at the factory and it's not transferring the heat to the heatsink very well.
Also I don't know your case or airflow around the card, but also try seeing if you can get it some more air. Maybe it will help a bit.
 
i've done wx7100's, they are designed to have higher airlfow over them. a box fan should be enough unless your room is hot.

You can remove the shroud and throw some decent fans on it if you can't get good airflow over them.
 
I was skeptical about the fan on the W7000 when I saw it. Just seemed incredibly small and weak. Didn't know if someone had better luck with it than I. Ill try some different thermal paste and if that doesn't help then it'll be time to look into a better cooling solution, thanks for the replies!
