I have question on the minimum specs listed on PC games. Are those play tested minimums or theoretical minimums?

Just wondering

Its probably the theoretical minimum, as it would play like crap in most cases, but the game itself would load and not just crash :p

CPU speed is one you could probably have under the minimum, but things like DX version or HD Space are actual values you need to meet or beat.

I think most companies test it. Although all it means is that the game technically will work, it might not be an enjoyable experience. If you are near the minimum specs try the demo or at least check the game's forums to see what kinds of play experience the minimum specs will give you.

Sage words right there.

When publishers say "minimum specs to play the game," they mean, "minimum specs to watch a slideshow of the game." To play the game reasonably, double those requirements in every area except hard drive and net connection. To play the game at high resolutions, like above 1680x1050, triple those requirements.

Minimum is generally enough to load up the game without crashing and recommended is usually what you need to get smooth performance on minimum settings.

If you really want to enjoy the game, the recommended specs should be your minimum.
