Greetings! I just upgraded from a crossfire 5850 to a single 7950. Some difference, but not a lot. Anyways. my question is I have the following at home sitting on a shelf;

"Factory" HD 5850

ASRock MATX H55M-GE motherboard with i3-550 3.2ghz with 16GB DDR3
ASUS ATX M4A79T motherboard Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHZ with 16GB DDR3
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R motherboard with Pentium D 2.6GHZ with 4GB DDR2

Antec Earthwatts EA-380D 380W [12V1 @ 15A, 12V2 @ 17A]
Antec NEO 400C 400W [12V @ 30A]
Corsair 400 CX 400W [12V @ 30A]
Corsair 450 VX 450W [12V @ 33A]

None of the above supplies have two PCI-E connectors, but with the right adapter, would any of these power a non over-clocked system with the HD5850? Nothing fancy with HDD's, single disk.

And yes, I am a bit of a pack-rat.
 
yeah like caniba said, any of them would work fine, if you did decide to overclock you may want to go with the VX450w just because of the higher amp's but even the 400's should be able to handle an overclocked 5850.

the only one i'd be cautious of is the 380D just because of the split 12v and not knowing what 12v the pci-e cable and molex cables are attached to if you use the 2 4 pin to 6 pin pci-e adapter.

as far as the boards go, i'd say use the asrock H55M with the i3 and the 5850.. best bang for the buck when it comes to power usage and performance. the pentium D would probably be the worst choice out of those in my opinion.
 
While I would say the EA380 is cutting a tad close at 27A on the +12V rail, the other PSUs should be fine. Out of those PSUs, I'd go with the 450VX as it's of higher quality than any of the other PSUs IIRC.
 
as every one already mentioned the best choice would be the most powerful - 450W ps as for the board - I would recommend ASUS ATX M4A79T motherboard Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHZ with 16GB DDR3, as I'm a fan of AMD))) on idle 7950 should eat around 200W and around 260-275 on the load, if you plan to overclock - add 15 to 30watt to mentioned digits above. Also you have to remember that 1090t draws up to 125W on itself. i3 on the other hand needs just 73W)))
maybe it's a time to think about upgrading to at least 600-650W ps?(better to wait for some good deal on ncix or newegg) just in case if you decide to CF 7950 in the future
