What is the minimum card you guys would think is needed to play WoW at a playable framerate (30fps) at 1280 x 1024ish?

Check link out for blizzard supported Vid cards for WoW

I would recommend:

NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 and above http://www.nvidia.com/page/mobile.html (go here and scroll down -under "Enthusiast" )
or
ATI’s Mobility™ Radeon® X1800 series +/Mobility™ Radeon® 9700+(agp)... http://www.ati.com/products/mobile.html

I personally wouldn't get anything less then GeForce Go 7800 + ...especially with a new notebook..

You can find cheaper cards that will run WoW, but if you're like me and like to see the game as it was intended ..you'll want the best. If you are looking to try and upgrade from your current system, post details to help try and find considerable options.

WoW will run on the onboard shared GPU thats on some laptops. Dont expect to get anywhere though. The above guy is right go for something pretty good.

Other cards that will run it would be X1400, X1600, 6600~, x700, and im sure some others. But those are pretty common these days so your best bet is one of those or better. I have a Go 7800GTX and run it 1680x1050 all settings maxed and I never lag. Also scored just under 7000 3DMark05. Which isnt bad at all especially for notebooks these days.

My friend's MacBook runs it at 1280x800, and all it has is a GMA 950 in it. He does get some minor stuttering, but for an Intel GPU, it's pretty good. WoW will run on most modern video chipsets just fine. I'd recommend looking at something like an X1400, which is available in many mainstream laptops, and should handle WoW no sweat.

If you are looking used at all, at least something like a Mobility Radeon 9700pro, if you are looking for cards availible in current model units, at least an x1600.

hmm I appreciate the suggestions. what laptops offer the x1800 mobility products?

I saw that the Dell E1705 can be had for a decent price with a 7900 GS .. but I still have some reservations about going with a full blown desktop replacement.
